LINE: Bayer Leverkusen +700 | Draw +430 | Bayern Munich -295
KICK OFF: Saturday, 4th July, 2PM EST
Bayer Leverkusen face the Bundesliga Champions Bayern Munich in the DFB-Pokal Final at Berlin’s Olympiastadion on Saturday.
Leverkusen are known as the eternal runners-up & mockingly named “Neverkusen” by rival fans. Back in 2002 they went from a potential treble, to empty handed in the space of three weeks. They blew a 5 point lead in the Bundesliga with 3 games to go, lost 4-2 to Schalke in the DFB-Pokal & fell to Real Madrid 2-1 in the Champions League with Zinedine Zidane scoring that iconic left-footed volley.
This Leverkusen side is no different. In Matchday 27 they beat Borussia Mochengladbach 3-1 to take lead in the race for 4th. After that they faulted with 3W, 1D & 3L to finish 5th & settle for Europa League qualifiaction. If they are to lift the trophy they’ll need generational talent Kai Havertz to be at his best. It would be a fairy tale send off for him as a summer transfer looks inevitable.
Bayern are the complete opposite to the “Neverkusen” tag. This season was their 8th straight Bundesliga title & they were the first German side to complete the treble back in the 2012/13 season . Die Roten have a great opportunity to emulate that achievement & that starts with adding the DFB-Pokal to their trophy cabinet.
In my Bundesliga Betting Guide at the restart I predicted Leverkusen to win this game 2-1. After watching Bayern decimate every team put in front of them I’m changing my mind. Bayern look unstoppable & B04 will have to live with their “Neverkusen” tag a little longer.
Prediction – Halftime/Fulltime Bayern Munich/Bayern Munich -114 if you backed Bayern on this bet in all 10 of their games since the restart you would have cashed 9 of them.
