How to Bet the Champions League

Everything you need to know right here!

The UEFA Champions League. Every match is Goliath vs Goliath, soccer’s global elite battling for the absolute top of the heap. Some of these games will draw numbers that easily eclipse any other sporting event on the planet, both in person and viewing remotely. So how can you get a piece of Earth’s most competitive league, in its most popular sport?

If you’re new to soccer betting, start by reviewing our Betting on Soccer post. Once comfortable, follow these general parameters.

UEFA Champions League Moneyline Bets

For the purposes of this example, we’ll use FanDuel Sportsbook NJ and take a look at the Champions League betting lines. Navigating there is easy. Click the link to get to FanDuel, navigate to soccer on the left, then UEFA on the top and Champions League. Presented will be the upcoming Champions League games.

We’re going to jump right into the listed game in this example: Tottenham vs Manchester City. The lines are listed as:

+330     +290     -130

Manchester City

The home team is always listed first in soccer betting. So Tottenham is home. This is a moneyline bet and is pretty straightforward. Manchester City are favored to win, though not heavily. The draw is +290. Tottenham are the underdog at +330. A $100 bet on either a draw will nnet you $290 in winnings. A $100 Tottenham win nets you $330. A $130 bet on Man City will net winnings of $100. Read here for more information on moneyline soccer bets.

UEFA Champions League Prop Bets

For this example, we are going to get a little more creative and jump into some Props Bets.

A “proposition bet” (prop bet, prop, novelty, or a side bet) is basically any wager that’s not on the winner / loser of a soccer match. Prop bets can be anything such as total goals scored, a correct score bet (seen below), or in the Tottenham vs. Manchester City example, “will Harry Kane score.”

Same rules apply here for betting as with your moneyline bet. If you like Tottenham to win 1-0 at +1600, then a $100 bet nets you $1600. Not bad!
