Bundesliga Betting 21/22: Hoffenheim vs FC Augsburg Betting Preview

Written By Alex Blowers on January 7, 2022

TSG Hoffenheim vs. FC Augsburg has become the biggest fixture of the weekend for USMNT fans after the visitors completed the signing of Ricardo Pepi earlier this week. His first game will see him go up against his international teammate Chris Richards who will start on the lefthand side of Hoffenheim’s back three.

For my reaction to the move, check out my Bundesliga Betting 21/22: Matchday 17 Lines, Tips and Ricardo Pepi’s Transfer post from earlier this week.

The game is scheduled to kick off Saturday at 9:30 AM EST and will be shown live on ESPN+. Read on for my match preview, bringing you all the latest team news, recent form, and stats to help you make better Bundesliga betting choices.

Out: Kasim Adams (Illness), Ermin Bičakčić (Covid-19), Diadie Samassekou (African Cup of Nations), Robert Skov (Thigh), Sargis Adamyan (Covid-19)
Doubtful: Marco John (Match Fitness), Håvard Nordtveit (Illness)
Suspended: None
Coach: Sebastian Hoeneß

The only thing keeping Hoffenheim out of the Top 4 at the moment is goal difference. They are three goals worse off than Bayer Leverkusen, and the last time they played in the Champions League was in 2019/20. With no European football to distract them, Sebastian Hoeneß‘s side have a great chance of returning to UEFA‘s premier club competition.

They resume the season with their strongest eleven available despite having seven players missing through injury, illness, or Covid-19. Forward Andrej Kramarić has only scored three times, and fans will be hoping he can rediscover his goalscoring form. The Croatian international has finished five of his six seasons on double figures.

Bundesliga Betting: TSG Hoffenheim vs FC Augsburg Betting Preview

Out: Alfred Finnbogason (Match Fitness), Tomáš Koubek (Covid-19), Tobias Strobl (Knee)
Doubtful: None
Suspended: Reece Oxford
Coach: Markus Weinzierl

Augsburg are all in on Pepi, and I think he starts this game with Markus Weinzierl switching to a 4-2-3-1. Pepi played in this formation at FC Dallas, and I think the club will adapt to his strengths to help him hit the ground running.

Felix Udoukhai will replace the suspended Reece Oxford in central defense. Goalkeeper Tomáš Koubek is unavailable after testing positive for Covid-19.

Recent reports have suggested Pepi’s arrival will see Florian Niederlechner move in the opposite direction to Chicago Fire. The MLS side sees him as the perfect replacement for Robert Berić, who recently left the club.

TSG HOFFENHEIM VS FC AUGSBURG BUNDESLIGA BETTING TIPS

Ricardo Pepi’s Player Prop odds are:

  • First Goalscorer +900
  • Last Goalscorer +900
  • Anytime Goalscorer +350
  • To Score First or Last +600
  • To Score Two Goals or More +3000
  • To Score Three Goals or More +13000

If you want to back Pepi, my advice is to put some pizza money behind him. Augsburg are the fourth-lowest scorers in the league with 17 and have created the third least amount of xG at 17, averaging one goal and 1 xG per match. No matter how good you are, it will always be difficult to score goals in a side that struggles to create quality chances.

My betting tip for this game is to back Hoffenheim to get the three points. They have home advantage and were brilliant at the end of 2021, going unbeaten in their final six games. To boost the odds to +120, combine it with Over 2.5 Goals. Hoffenheim’s last five matches averaged 4.6 goals per game, and I think we will see goals with Augsburg missing center-back Reece Oxford through suspension.

BUNDESLIGA BETTING TIP: Parlay TSG Hoffenheim To Win and Over 2.5 Goals +120
