Bundesliga Betting 21/22: Eintracht Frankfurt vs Borussia Dortmund Betting Preview

Written By Alex Blowers on January 7, 2022

The Bundesliga returns this weekend after taking a three-week break for winter. We would all love to see a title race, but Borussia Dortmund are nine points behind Bayern Munich, and it’s looking like it’s over for another season. BVB are going strong in the cup competitions, and Marco Rose would do well to win the DFB-Pokal or UEFA Europa League in his first season.

Their opponent Eintracht Frankfurt finished 2021 as one of the league’s in-form sides, winning six of their last seven games to move up to sixth. Die Adler are one point outside the Top 4, and it will be a successful first season for Oliver Glasner if he can bring UEFA Champions League football to the Commerzbank Arena.

The game is scheduled to kick off Saturday at 12:30 PM EST and will be shown live on ESPN+. These two kicked the season off against each other playing out a seven-goal thriller with Erling Haaland stealing the show. Read on for my match preview, bringing you all the latest team news, recent form, and stats to help you make better Bundesliga betting choices.

Out: Aymen Barkok (African Cup of Nations), Danny da Costa (Covid-19), Jens Petter Hauge (Thigh), Christopher Lenz (Calf), Jesper Lindstrøm (Covid-19)
Doubtful: None
Suspended: None
Coach: Oliver Glasner

Danny da Costa is unavailable after testing positive for Covid-19. That means former USMNT player Timothy Chandler will be handed his eighth start of the campaign at right wing-back with Filip Kostić on the opposite flank.

Gonçalo Paciência will partner Rafael Santon Borré after Jesper Lindstrøm tested positive for Covid-19.

Recent reports have suggested Borussia Mönchengladbach are keen on bringing Martin Hinteregger back to Borussia-Park. The Austrian international spent six months on loan with them in the second half of the 2015/16 season. Gladbach sees him as the perfect replacement for Matthias Ginter, who announced his decision to leave this summer when his contract expires.

Out: Manuel Akanji (Knee), Mateu Morey (Knee), Marcel Schmelzer (Knee), Luca Unbehaun (Hand), Marius Wolf (Covid-19), Dan-Axel Zagadou (Covid-19)
Doubtful: Youssoufa Moukoko (Muscular), Gio Reyna (Match Fitness)
Suspended: None
Coach: Marco Rose

Rose has limited options at center-back, with Manuel Akanji and Dan-Axel Zagadou both out. We could see Marin Progračić, Emre Can, or Axel Witsel partner Mats Hummels in central defense.

I named Jude Bellingham in my Bundesliga Team of the Season so far, and he will partner Mahmoud Dahoud in the center of the pitch. Haaland ended 2021 in blistering form scoring six goals and providing one assist in six appearances after returning from injury. Dortmund will be hoping he stays fit the rest of the campaign.

USMNT star Gio Reyna could make his long-awaited return from the hamstring injury that has kept him out since the beginning of September. He returned to training late November, and if he features, it will be from the bench.

Marius Wolf is unavailable after testing positive for Covid-19.

The one thing we’re most likely to see in this game is goals. In their last five fixtures, both sides averaged four goals per game, and I think we will see that form continue in 2022.

Dortmund have leaked goals all season, and their best defender Akanji is out injured. Up top, they have a fully fit Haaland who will cause Frankfurt’s defense problems all afternoon who have kept one clean sheet in their last seven fixtures, conceding nine goals.

Back goals at both ends of the pitch in this game.
