Bundesliga Betting 21/22: Matchday 05 Lines and Tips

UEFA‘s three club competitions kicked off this week, and seven clubs from Germany have qualified for the Group Stages. When making your Bundesliga betting picks this weekend, please pay close attention to each side’s lineups for these midweek games, how much distance they’ve had to travel, and how many days rest they’ve had.

For example, this weekend’s marquee fixture is Borussia Dortmund hosting FC Union Berlin at Signal Iduna Park on Sunday. BVB travel to Turkey on Wednesday to face Besiktas in their opening Champions League game.

Union have a tough trip to the Czech Republic on Thursday in the Europa Conference League. Their opponent Slavia Prague made it to the Quarterfinal stage of the Europa League last season, and it will be a tough game. I think Urs Fischer will play his strongest side, and his players will only have Friday, Saturday, and Sunday morning to rest and prepare.

Anything can happen on the pitch, but Dortmund have a huge advantage going into this game with their extra day of rest and deeper squad. I recommend you consider these when making your bets in a week when European football’s taking place.

Five other teams are playing in UEFA’s competitions this week. On Tuesday and Wednesday, Bayern Munich, VfL Wolfsburg, and RB Leipzig are playing in the Champions League. On Thursday, Bayer Leverkusen and Eintracht Frankfurt are in the Europa League.

Let’s take a look at the 2021-22 Bundesliga Matchday 05 Betting Lines and Tips.

Dortmund and Leverkusen’s game at the weekend is the perfect example of what makes the Bundesliga so great. The games between the big sides rarely fail to disappoint, and this was an exciting end-to-end 7 goal thriller that had everything and six different scorers.

Youngsters Florian Wirtz and Moussa Diaby got on the scoresheet whilst 18-year-old Jude Bellingham had a goal ruled out by VAR. Raphaël Guerreiro scored a brilliant freekick to make it 3-3, and Erling Braut Haaland settled the game from the penalty spot.

These two are scheduled to play each other next on February 5th, and I highly recommend you mark it in your diaries.

We’re only four games into the season, but it already looks like Leipzig’s title challenge is over. Jesse Marsch‘s side are down in 12th 6 points behind Dortmund, 7 points behind Bayern, and 9 points behind leaders Wolfsburg. They will have to go on a major winning streak to make that ground up and don’t see that happening in their current form.

This is especially hard for me to take because I recommended them as the best value at +1600 to win the Bundesliga, and it’s all over by mid-September.

Bundesliga Betting: Matchday 05 Lines and Tips

  • I recommend Bayern -2.5 Goals on the Spread at +105 for their game against VfL Bochum. They’ve had an impressive few days on the road beating Leipzig 4-1 and Barcelona 3-0. With home advantage and their players full of confidence, I think we will see them record another impressive victory at the Allianz Arena.
  • Back Leipzig to collect 3 points from their trip to FC Cologne. If they were better in form, I would take them on the spread at -1.5 Goals. Life under Marsch hasn’t gotten off to the best of starts, and I recommend playing it safe by taking them on the Moneyline at -145.
  • Mainz 05 have gone from strength to strength under Bo Svensson since he took over in January. They currently sit in fourth after collecting 9 points from a possible 12, and with home advantage, I think they’re good value on the Moneyline at +110 against SC Freiburg.
  • I like Leverkusen Team Goals Over 1.5 at -140. They have scored 12 goals in their opening four matches which averages out to 3  a game. Their opponent, VfB Stuttgart‘s backline, has been leaking goals this season, conceding 9 goals in the first four matches, the joint third-most in the league.
