Bundesliga Betting 21/22: Matchday 20 Lines, Analysis and Tips

Written By Alex Blowers on January 19, 2022

DFB-Pokal holders Borussia Dortmund crashed out of the competition on Tuesday. 2.Bundesliga leaders FC St. Pauli beat them 2-1 and it’s another performance and result that underlies the issues at Signal Iduna Park. In Matchday 18 they came from 2-0 down to beat Eintracht Frankfurt 3-2. Last weekend they dissected a very good SC Freiburg side beating them 5-1.

BVB‘s inconsistency and unpredictability mean that once again they can’t be taken seriously as title contenders and Bayern Munich will comfortably win the Bundesliga.

All the action is available to watch on ESPN+, and you can always hit me up on Twitter @AlexJBlowers for advice, your picks, and thoughts on what’s happening in the world of soccer. BUNDESLIGA MATCHDAY 19 ROUNDUP

ROBERT LEWANDOWSKI RIGHTFULLY NAMED BEST FIFA MEN’S PLAYER 2021

It’s fair to say FIFA have got a lot wrong over the years. Awarding Qatar the World Cup over England, their current pursuit of expanding the World Cup to every two years, bribery, corruption the list is endless. When they do get something correct it’s only fair we praise them. Naming Robert Lewandowski as the Best FIFA Men’s Player 2021 for the second year in a row was the right decision.

Hopefully, this breaks the stranglehold Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo hold over the individual awards scene. The two have claimed this award 11 times between them in the last 14 years. The two have also shared 12 out of the last 13 Ballon d’Or awards. They’ve both been amazing players but I feel it’s getting to the point where they’re voted for on sentiment rather than achievement.

I feel Cristiano Ronaldo has no right being on the substitutes bench for the FIFPro Men’s XI let alone named in the starting XI. It’s time for soccer to move on and embrace the new generation coming through.

YANN SOMMER IS ONE OF THE BEST GOALKEEPERS IN THE WORLD

I’ve always rated Yann Sommer and would argue he’s one of the best goalkeepers in the world not at an elite club. The Swiss international has been at Borussia Mönchengladbach for almost eight seasons and there’s a good chance he will move on this summer.

The 33-year-old’s contract runs out June 2023 and I don’t think Gladbach will risk a repeat of what happened with Matthias Ginter and Denis Zakaria. Both will leave the club on a free this summer and Gladbach can’t afford to lose their biggest assets for nothing.

I feel Sommer will have a host of suitors and I wouldn’t be surprised if he makes a big-money move to the Premier League.

BUNDESLIGA BETTING ANALYSIS AND TIPS

  • FC Union Berlin or the Draw at -135 is great value in the Double Chance market. Urs Fischer‘s side are up to fifth in the table and only lost twice in their last nine Bundesliga matches. It looks like their opponent Borussia Mönchengladbach have brought their consistency issues from 2021 into 2022. Die Fohlen followed up their 2-1 win over Bayern Munich with a 2-1 defeat to Bayer Leverkusen.
  • I think Over 3.5 Goals at +100 is a pretty safe bet for TSG Hoffenheim vs. Borussia Dortmund. BVB can’t defend as a unit and have just been dumped out of the DFB-Pokal by 2.Bundesliga side FC St. Pauli. I think we will see a big response from Marco Rose‘s side that will result in goals.
  • There’s good value Parlaying Eintracht Frankfurt and SC Freiburg’s Moneylines at +232. Both sides have home advantage and will bounce back from last weekend’s disappointing results with wins.
