Bundesliga Betting: Matchday 14 Lines

The Bundesliga returns this weekend after a shortened winter break.

We have 21 more Matchdays to go & Bayern Munich are sitting on top after their dramatic stoppage time winner against Bayer Leverkusen. Joshua Kimmich pounced on Jonathan Tah’s heavy touch to release Robert Lewandowski. The worlds best Number 9 scored via a deflection to round off an amazing 2020 for Die Roten.

Bayern always find a way!

FC Schalke have hired the experienced Christian Groß. The Swiss manager has over 32 years of experience at eight clubs. This includes a 10 month stint at VFB Stuttgart where he took them from 15th to 6th. The Schalke board feels this makes him the the right choice to keep them up.

That was 10 years ago & he had Alexander Hleb, Sami Khedira, Pavel Pogrebnyak, Jens Lehmann, Zdravko Kuzmanović & Khalid Boulahrouz available to him. I look at Schalke’s squad today & don’t see anywhere near the same level of quality. With the January transfer window opening in days they need to get a proven goalscorer in to stand any chance of survival.

Premier League fans will know him for his infamous press conference when Tottenham Hotspur unveiled him in 1997. He started brandishing a London Underground ticket & told the press how he took the same journey as fans. This was his attempt to connect with the supporters, but, it failed spectacularly. Many feel his appointment was the start of Tottenham’s underachievement & instability until Harry Redknapp’s appointment in 2008.

23 years on will we see the opposite here? Will Groß’s appointment bring an end to Schalke’s underachievement & instability? I highly doubt it & the Sports Book’s feel the same offering them at -500 to be relegated.

Mainz 05 have amicably parted ways with their Sporting Director Rouven Schröder. “The decision to leave the club was not easy for me. Mainz 05, the club, the team, the staff and the city have grown close to my heart over the past few years, and that’s not something you can easily give up. However, for my work and for my commitment, I have to stand behind what I do 100 per cent. I had the feeling that it is better for the club and for me to move on so that Mainz 05 can reposition itself as a whole,” said the 45-year-old in the statement released by the club.

His contract was due to run till 2024. It was brought to a premature end at his request. Chairman of the board, Detlev Höhne says: “Rouven Schröder asked us to terminate his contract on Tuesday morning. The Supervisory Board has accepted this decision with regret because we would have very much liked to retain Rouven Schröder’s competence and expertise at our club.”

Clearly a respected & liked figure who has contributed to Mainz’s success in recent times. Has he jumped ship because he feels relegation is inevitable this season? Mainz are down in 17th on 6 points. They appointed the inexperienced Jan Moritz Lichte due to financial constraints back in Matchday 02.

Draftkings are offering them at +180 to be relegated & I think that’s great value.

If you haven’t already, give the Bundesliga’s official Twitter account @Bundelsiga_EN a follow. They put out a great range of content every week.

Let’s take a look at the 2020-21 Bundesliga Matchday 14 Betting Lines.

  • I have a feeling Werder Bremen VS FC Union Berlin will finish with a draw +225.
  • Bayern Munich have Joshua Kimmich back from injury. They have missed him so much & he will drive them to a big win over Mainz 05. Back Bayern -2.5 Goals -107.
  • Erling Haaland is back from injury but I still think there’s value in VFL Wolfsburg or the Draw +143. Wout Weghorst has been outstanding this season & Borussia Dortmund were very poor against Union Berlin last time out.
  • I think the winter break will revitalize Borussia Mönchengladbach’s tired squad. Back them to breeze past Arminia Bielefeld at -1.5 goals +160.
