Bundesliga Matchday 02 Betting Tips: Managers Under Pressure

Posted By Alex Blowers on September 23, 2020

What a start to the Bundesliga season! I conjured up my first clean sweep on High Press Soccer going 4-0 with my MD01 Picks. I’m feeling like the Bayern Munich of the Betting World LOL!

All jokes aside it was a great opening weekend & I’ll be doing my best to continue picking winners every Matchday.

Check out my post from earlier in the week for the full MD02 fixture list & Betting Lines.

The pressure is mounting on David Wagner & Florian Kohfeldt. Both of their sides massively under performed last season & it’s surprising that at least one of them haven’t been replaced yet. The race to be fired first is between these two & the one who loses this game is likely to be the winner.

Werder Bremen almost suffered relegation last season but rallied when the Bundesliga restarted & it looked like they had turned a corner. It’s only one game into the season but it was a weak display at home losing 4-1 to Hertha Berlin. Their squad is more than capable of finishing mid-table & they have strengthened this window, with loan signing Tahith Chong from Manchester United the pick of the bunch.

In 2020 Schalke’s Bundesliga record is 1 Win, 6 Draws & 11 Losses. That is 9 points from a possible 54 & is serious relegation form. If they did drop down to the 2.Bundesliga, it could take them years to recover with the club already 200 million Euro’s in the red.

Limited financially, the only change Die Knappen can make is to bring in a new manager & former player Marc Wilmots has been linked to takeover. Hopefully the former Belgium Manager can bring new ideas to lift the squad because it would be a genuine shame to see one of Germany’s biggest clubs exit the Bundesliga.

This game was evenly pitched at the start of the week with both sides at +165. Schalke have emerged as favorites at +150 & I can’t see why. David Wagner’s sacking is inevitable & everyone knows it. Werder Bremen takes all 3 points here to bide more time for Kohfeldt to turn things around.

Prediction – 2 Units: Werder Bremen ML +180

Things are looking bright for Julian Nagelsmann’s side & they have just signed Alexander Sørloth from Trabzonspor. The Norwegian scored 33 goals & provided 11 assists last season. Hopes are high he can fill the void left by Timo Werner’s departure.

Leipzig kicked the season off in style beating Mainz 3-1. Die Roten Bullen created multiple chances & should have scored 6 or 7 easily. This was all with club captain Marcel Sabitzer & Christopher Nkunku; arguably their two most creative players starting on the bench. WB’s Angeliño & Amadou Haidara were a constant threat getting in behind Mainz’s backline & adding width to Leipzig’s play.

Bayer Leverkusen started the season how they ended the previous one. They dominated possession but failed to create anything meaningful in the final third. Leon Bailey & Paulinho were unavailable through injury & new signing Patrick Schick started on the bench. When these three get fit & firing they’ll be a real threat going forward.

Leipzig have adjusted well to life without Timo & their run to the semi-finals of the Champions League have given them the belief that they can still compete with the best. Leverkusen look to be struggling with the loss of Kai Havertz & I think it could take them a few weeks to find their rhythm.

Prediction – 2 Units: RB Leipzig ML +125

Hertha Berlin have been busy this transfer window & last week completed their marquee signing with Jhon Córdoba’s signature. The Colombian joins Matheus Cunha & Krzysztof Piatek to round off one of the leagues strongest front 3’s. I backed Hertha to break into the Top 6 in my Bundesliga Futures Bets & I’m feeling more & more confident about this pick.

Frankfurt were held to a disappointing 1-1 draw at home by newly promoted Arminia Bielefeld. They dominated the game with 62% possession & 18 shots but only 6 were on target. There’s talk of former striker Luka Jović returning on loan from Real Madrid & they’ll be hopeful he can replicate his 18/19 season haul of 27 goals.

Prediction – 1 Unit: Hertha Berlin ML +130

We got off to a winning start in MD01 as Bayern destroyed Schalke 8-0 & were 3-0 up at Half Time. Leroy Sane ran riot with a goal & 2 assists. Hansi Flick had him drifting into central positions & his pace & movement caused Schalke problems all evening.

This Sunday Die Roten face a tougher test with a trip to Hoffenheim who’s new manager, Sebastian Hoenab managed Bayern’s Reserve side last season. His philosophy & playing style is very similar to Hansi Flick’s but Hoffenheim’s squad have only had a few weeks to adapt.

You could bill this is an Apprentice VS Master situation but there won’t be an upset.

Prediction – 2 Units: Bayern Half Time/Full Time -175

HT/FT Results: Wins 1, Losses 0
