Bundesliga Matchday 03 Betting Tips

Posted By Alex Blowers on October 1, 2020

Matchday 02 was full of upsets & I went 1-3 with my Werder Bremen Money Line bet the only one to hit.

Florian Kohfeldt put his faith into Niclas Füllkrug & he fully delivered. The German scored a hat-trick to earn Werder all 3 points & put the final nail into the coffin, that was David Wagner’s Schalke career. I predicted he would be the first manager sacked & was released from his duties on Sunday. Twenty four hours later Mainz 05 fired head coach Achim Beierlorzer for losing their opening two games & conceding 7 goals.

Check out my post from earlier in the week for the full MD03 fixture list & Betting Lines.

This will be Bayern Munich’s fifth game in 16 days & a schedule this intense, will test the deepest of squads.

Leroy Sané is out with a knee injury & David Alaba has a muscular problem. Throw in transfer target Sergiño Dest (Check out Tyler Everett’s Transfer Grade Article) opting for Barcelona & Michaël Cuisance’s impending move to Marcelo Biesla’s Leeds, their squad is looking thin.

Expect Die Roten to be very busy in the last few days of the transfer window as they need to sign a RB, CM & Winger. Last year they relied heavy on the loan market with Philippe Coutinho, Álvaro Odriozola & Ivan Perišić all joining temporarily. It will be interesting to see if they utilize this approach again.

With Bayern’s squad stretched & fatigue an issue right now I am feeling a little anxious about this bet, but I made a commitment to play it every Matchday. There are some positives with Leon Goretzka fully rested midweek, Serge Gnabry only featured for 35 minutes & this game is at home in the Allianz Arena. Last weeks 4-1 loss to Hoffenheim was a very rare off day & I believe Hansi Flick will have his team back to winning ways against Hertha Berlin.

Prediction – 1 Unit: Bayern Half Time/Full Time -225

HT/FT Results: Wins 1, Losses 1

Schalke have appointed former FC Augsburg & Germany Under 20 manager Michael Baum on a two year deal. He said in his opening press conference “I am convinced of the quality of our squad” but predicted them to finish 15th a couple of weeks ago.

When a new manager comes in, you will normally see a big improvement in performances as the whole mood of the club is lifted. Unfortunately for Die Knappen, their problems run a lot deeper with the club in crisis at all levels.

He will have limited funds to work with after Schalke announced on Wednesday a loss of €9.7 million ($11.4 million) in the first half of the year, increasing their debt to €205.3 million.

One of the biggest issues he needs to address is squad discipline with a number of players wanting out. He will be without promising CB Ozan Kabak who lost his head in Saturday’s defeat to Werder Bremen. The Turkish international got himself sent off when his team needed him the most. His suspension has been increased to 5 games & handed a €15,000 fine for spitting in the direction of Ludwig Augustinsson.

RB Leipzig beat a host of European clubs to the signing of another exciting young player. 18 year old CB Josko Gvardiol will join July 1st 2021 from Dinamo Zagreb. My monies on him being a direct replacement for Dayot Upamecano who has a reported €60 million buyout clause that activates next summer.

Baum is known to set his sides up with a clear structure & playing style but only has two days to work with his new squad. I don’t think that’s enough time to implement the changes he wants. We will see a more inspired performance from Schalke, but Die Roten Bullen are too strong & will win this game comfortably by at least 2 goals.

Prediction – 2 Units: RB Leipzig -1.5 Goals -148

Hoffenheim & Sebastian Hoeness (Nephew of Bayern Muich legend Uli Hoeness) achieved the unthinkable last Sunday. They took full advantage of a tired Bayern side & produced a tactical masterclass. Exposing their high line time & time again to run out 4-1 winners. The scoreline didn’t flatter them & they should have scored more as they became the first side to beat Die Roten in 2020.

Eintracht Frankfurt were in deadly form for Friday nights match against Hertha Berlin. Scoring all three shots they had on target (4 if you want to count Martin Hinteregger’s own goal). André Silva scored his second of the season & put a man of the match performance in as he looks to have found his feet after struggling at AC Milan.

Three of their last four meetings have resulted in 3 goals or more. In these two sides opening Bundesliga fixtures there have been 16 goals with Hoffenheim 7 scored, 3 conceded & Frankfurt 4 scored, 2 conceded. Both sides forward lines look to be at their best & we’re guaranteed to see goals in this game.

Prediction – 2 Units: Over 2.5 Goals -215
