Bundesliga Matchday 05 Betting Tips: Revierderby

Posted By Alex Blowers on October 22, 2020

I got off to a great start in Matchday 04 with my Bayern Munich Halftime / Fulltime bet cashing comfrotably. Die Roten went into HT with a 3-0 lead & saw the game out 4-1. My other two bets didn’t hit as Eintracht Frankfurt & FC Union Berlin both surrendered 1-0 leads to finish their games 1-1.

In Matchday 05 we’ll definitely see some surprise results. Bayern, Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig, Borussia Mochengladbach all kick off their Champions League campaign & Bayer Leverkusen & Hoffenheim play in the Europa League.

Check out my post from earlier in the week for the full MD05 fixture list & Betting Lines.

These two meet on Saturday for the Revierderby, one of German football’s biggest rivalries. The hatred runs deep & it’s been pretty even between these two since the Bundesliga formed in 1963; Schalke 32 wins, Dortmund 36 wins & the other 30 fixtures ending in a draw. This installment will only have 300 BVB fans in attendance as local authorities try to curve the spread of COVID-19.

Erling Braut Haaland started on the bench for Dortmund against Hoffenheim in MD04 & it was obvious how reliant they have become on him. The Norwegian international is their only forward who plays on the shoulder of the last defender & looks to get behind the opposition defence with his pace & strength. He entered in the 64th minute alongside club captain Marco Reus & BVB’s frontline sprung into life with these two combining for the winner.

On loan striker Gonçalo Paciência headed Omar Mascarell’s corner home at the near post to give Schalke their first point of the season. Die Knappen were lucky to get anything from the game with a measly 0.29 for expected goals & some fans are still unimpressed with their performances.

Bayern absolutely battered Schalke 8-0 on the opening day of the season & Leipzig played them off the park in a comfortable 4-0 win. Dortmund will do the same here & Michael Baum’s side will have to answer to the Ultra’s once again.

Prediction – 2 Units: Dortmund Halftime / Fulltime -159

Mainz 05 are rooted to the bottom of the Bundesliga table with 2 goals scored & 12 conceded. They sacked their manager after MD02 & have turned to the inexperienced Jan Moritz Lichte. This appointment is more to do with financial constraints as former head coaches Achim Beierlorzer & Sandro Schwarz remain on the payroll till 2022.

Gladbach have had a slow start to the season & their Champions League campaign will effect their Bundesliga form in the coming weeks. Their best performance came against FC Köln in a convincing 3-1 victory & they should have more than enough to overcome this struggling Mainz side. Especially if Florian Neuhaus turns up in this kind of mood. The vision & weight of pass on this through ball is absolute perfection.

Prediction – 2 Units: Gladbach Money Line -155

This line is way off to me. Union Berlin were +170 to beat Schalke last weekend & are pitched here at +130 favorites. Urs Fischer’s side do have home advantage but their stadium isn’t exactly a fortress with a loss to FC Augsburg & a 4-0 win over the Bundesliga’s poorest side Mainz 05.

SC Frieburg are a decent side who finished 8th last season & +215 is way to generous. This game could go either way so I’m trying something new & taking a calculated risk. Backing the draw & Freiburg to win. I’m covering 2 out of the 3 possible outcomes & I’ll make over a Unit in profit if one of them hits.

Prediction – 1 Unit: SC Freiburg Money Line +215 & 1 Unit: Draw +240

Eintracht Frankfurt go in to this match unbeaten but inconsistent with impressive wins over Hoffenheim & Hertha Berlin & disappointing draws to Aminia Bielefeld & FC Köln. Adolf (Thanks mum & dad) Hütter’s side have produced their best performances against stronger opposition but this task is a stretch too far.

Bayern have bounced back from their MD02 loss to Hoffenheim with 5 wins, 18 goals scored & 6 conceded. Hansi Flick’s side look to be back to their best & have dominated Frankfurt at home since losing to them in November 2000 with 14 wins & 1 draw in the Bundesliga.

Frankfurt’s unbeaten start to the season will end with the final whistle on Saturday.

Prediction – 2 Units: Bayern Half Time/Full Time -162

HT/FT Results: Wins 3, Losses 1
