Bundesliga Matchday 33 Tips: Relegation 6 Pointer

Posted By Alex Blowers on June 19, 2020

It’s the penultimate Match Day of the season as the Bundesliga comes to a close. Bayern are champions again. Mainz have moved 5 points clear from the relegation zone as they beat an out of sorts Dortmund side.

At this stage of the season it’s difficult to predict which sides will down tools & which will fight to the end as some have nothing to play for. A classic example is back in 2016 when relegated Newcastle smashed Tottenham Hotspur 5-1 with 10 men.

If the season was 4 games longer, Bremen would finish outside the relegation zone. Florian Kohfeldt has them playing very defensively and effectively.  Although it’s hard on the eye, it’s working for them. They gave a good account of themselves against champions Bayern midweek & they’ll be full of confidence with their 5-1 win over SC Paderborn last weekend.

Mainz pulled off a great escape two season ago & they’re looking good to repeat that this season. They recorded a famous victory midweek with 19 year-old Jonathan Michael Burkardt opening the scoring. They only had possession 31% of the game & collectively covered five miles more than Dortmund so fatigue might play a part in this game.

I predicted Bremen to finish in the Relegation / Promotion Playoff spot in my Bundesliga Betting Guide at the restart & I’m sticking with it. 22 of Bremen’s 28 points have come on the road & they’ll get 3 more here.

Prediction – Werder Bremen on the Money Line +150

Earlier this week, Timo Werner’s transfer to Chelsea was finally confirmed. This will be his last game at the Red Bull Arena. Leipzig were established in 2009 & Timo is the first superstar to emerge under the Red Bull Sports Team brand. It’s sad that he & the fans are denied the chance to say goodbye in person.

Leipzig have struggled at home drawing all four games & Dortmund have thrived on the road winning all 3, scoring nine & conceding just once. BVB are the better team, they play better football & they’ll prove it here to take second spot.

Prediction – Borussia Dortmund on the Money Line +195

Midweek relegation threatened Union Berlin beat a SC Paderborn side that has nothing to play for. In this fixture we have the roles reversed with Hoffenheim chasing Europa League qualification & Union Berlin relaxed with safety confirmed.

At this stage its natural to see a dip in teams who have achieved their target for the season & I think we’ll see that here with Union Berlin.

Prediction – Hoffenheim on the Money Line -159

Wins: 11
Losses: 12
Units: -0.94
