Bundesliga Matchday 34 Betting Tips: Werder Bremen vs Gladbach

Posted By Alex Blowers on May 21, 2021

Eintracht Frankfurt’s players are an absolute disgrace for their performance in Matchday 33. In contention for qualifying for the Champions League, they traveled to Gelsenkirchen to face FC Schalke 04, the worse side in the Bundesliga. A win here would have kept the pressure on Borussia Dortmund and VfL Wolfsburg, who played on Sunday. They lost 4-3 letting themselves, the club, fans, and, more importantly, me down as I lost 7 units across four bets backing them.

Wolfsburg surrendered a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with RB Leipzig. It cost me my Money Line bet, but a point was enough to secure them the Top 4, which I said they would do back in Matchday 20. I backed Robert Lewandowski to surpass Gerd Müller’s 40 goals in a season record last weekend, and he came this close to doing it.

All in all, Matchday 33 was a complete disaster, with every one of my six bets failing to hit. I lost 10 Units, and I’m sitting at +6.874 Units for the season overall. This weekend is the final round of games, and I’m signing off with a couple of big plays. Thank you to everyone who has read my posts this season and been brave enough to take my advice.

Werder Bremen welcomes former coach Thomas Schaaf back to the dugout for their final game of the season. The 60-year-old managed the club from 1999-2013 and led them to a domestic double in the 2003-04 season, winning the Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal. A win against Borussia Mönchengladbach will guarantee they don’t get automatically relegated and will be enough to avoid the Relegation Playoff if Arminia Bielefeld drops points.

Gladbach needs a win to give themselves a chance of qualifying for the Europa Conference League. The club started the season with hopes of making the Top 4 for the second time in a row, but they disappeared in February when the board chose to announce Marco Rose’s move to Dortmund. The news sparked a nine-game run without a win in all competitions, drawing one and losing eight.

It looked like Rose’s position at the club had become untenable. The board were powerless to act as sacking him would jeopardize the €5 million release clause Dortmund will pay this summer. The whole situation has been a complete and utter mess from start to finish, and it could cost Gladbach European football.

The question for this game is how much of an impact can Schaaf make? The club announced his appointment on Sunday, so he’s had five days to work with the players before this game. He’s a club legend who will command the players’ respect, but I’m not sure where he finds goals in this side. Werder have scored the fourth least amount this season, and it is one of the main reasons they’re in this position.

Werder Bremen’s board have left it too late and should have parted ways with Florian Kohfeldt a few weeks back. Invest your money in Gladbach’s Money Line.

Prediction – 3 Units: Borussia Mönchengladbach Money Line +143

I have a feeling Schalke will get something from this game and drag FC Köln down to the 2.Bundesliga with them. Dimitris Grammozis’ side will play with confidence and freedom, and I’m confident American Matthew Hoppe will start this game.

He was introduced from the bench at halftime last weekend and assisted Florian Flick for Schalke’s third. Four minutes later, he scored the 4th with this beautiful finish. The way he opens his body up and side foots the ball into the corner is special. He has a real eye for goal, and the right club and coaching staff could develop him into a top striker. I’m confident he will be leading the line for the USMNT’s at the 2026 World Cup.

The Billy Goats will crumble under the pressure and join Schalke in the 2.Bundesliga.

Prediction – 3 Units: FC Schalke 04 or the Draw +240
