Champions League Matchday 3 Betting Advice for German Clubs

Posted By Alex Blowers on November 2, 2020 - Last Updated on November 3, 2020

Matchday 02 was a mixed bag for the four German sides but all profit for me as 3 of the 4 bets I recommended cashed.

The big two, Bayern Munich & Borussia Dortmund, both overcame Russian opposition to get all three points. These two are looking the most likely to advance to the knockout stages of the Champions League.

Borussia Mönchengladbach dropped points again after conceding in injury time & they could have well & truly blown their chance to advance in the competition. I think it’s the same for RB Leipzig & they’re under pressure to get something out of their meetings with PSG.

BAYERN MUNICH

I wrote last week that Joshua Kimmich is becoming one of my favorite players to watch & he went & pulled out this little beauty. Everything about this goal is WORLD CLASS!!!!! The touch, the way he moves his body into position whilst keeping his eye on the ball, the footwork, the concentration & the technique to hit the volley into the bottom corner. Enjoy it & then watch it again to enjoy it some more.

Hansi Flick’s side got the job done with a 2-1 win as Lokomotiv Moscow proved to be more difficult than many thought. Leon Goretzka scored Bayern’s first & his partnership with Kimmich is the best central midfield double pivot in the game right now.

UP NEXT: RED BULL SALZBURG AWAY

Robert Lewandowski, Leon Goretzka, Kingsley Coman, Lucas Hernández were all rested in Saturday’s 2-1 win over FC Köln & David Alaba came off the bench for the last 11 minutes.

Red Bull Salzburg have scored 4 & conceded 5 whilst Bayern have scored 6 & conceded 1 across the two Matchdays. This game will have goals but it will be Die Roten’s rested side will be scoring the majority of them.

Prediction – Bayern Munich -2.5 Goals +200

BORUSSIA DORTMUND

Dortmund bounced back with a comfortable win over Zenit St. Petersburg. They dominated the game but left it late to score with Jadon Sancho from the spot in the 78th minute & Erling Haaland wrapping things up in injury time.

UP NEXT: CLUB BRUGGE AWAY

Club Brugge have proved to be a little trickier than expected & the Jan Breydal Stadium is a tough place to go. Lazio learnt that in Matchday 02 & were lucky to leave with a 1-1 draw after seeing just 41% possession.

Three games ago, Lucian Favre switched formations to a 4-2-3-1 & BVB haven’t conceded since. Mats Hummels is an integral part of that success & he exited Saturdays game in the 86th minute with what looks to be a hamstring injury after scoring a brace.

It’s Der Klassiker on Saturday & I can’t see Hummels being risked for this game. Erling Haaland should be back in the starting lineup after being rested at the weekend with a minor knee injury.

With all this in mind I’m feeling this game will have a lot goals.

Prediction – Over 3.5 Goals +163

RB LEIPZIG

Julian Nagelsmann got a lot of stick on social media for his choice of attire in the Champions League semi-final loss to PSG & he went bold again for the trip to Old Trafford.

I respect his courage but when you wear something like this & lose 5-0 you’re leaving yourself open to even more criticism. Even the interviewer’s having a pop.

It was a terrible night for RB Leipzig but the scoreline did flatter Manchester United & in their defense, the first goal is absolute complete BULLSHIT!!! Leipzig are a counter attacking side & it forced them to come out & attack. This played right into United’s hands who picked Die Roten Bullen off on the counter with Marcus Rashford & Anthony Martial’s pace.

UP NEXT: PSG AT HOME

Ideally Leipzig win this game & get a draw in Paris. One thing they can’t afford to do is lose as that would all but end their qualification hopes. Nagelsmann will want to keep this game tight & hit Thomas Tuchel’s side on the counter.

PSG’s recent injury crisis has been made even worse with the news that Neymar will be out for the next 4 weeks with an abductor injury. Mauro Icardi & Leandro Parades are close to returning but neither made the squad for Saturday’s 3-0 win over FC Nantes.

PSG aren’t looking as dangerous going forward so I’m going to back the Under.

Prediction – Under 3.5 Goals -162

BORUSSIA MÖNCHENGLADBACH

Oh no Gladbach not again. Minutes away from victory & they concede another 90th minute equalizer. Marco Rose’s side could be sitting on top of Group B with 6 points but the Champions League is a cruel competition for sides that are inexperienced.

The hard working Marcus Thuram scored a brace & it’s only a matter of time before one of Europe’s elite clubs lure him away from Borussia-Park.

UP NEXT: SHAKHTAR DONETSK AWAY

It’s Gladbach’s 6th game in 18 days & they have faced Wolfsburg, Inter Milan, Real Madrid & RB Leipzig on this run of games.

Yann Sommer & Matthias Ginter have played every minute in the last five fixtures & Nico Elvedi & Stefan Lainer have started all five. Florian Neuhaus, Jonas Hoffman, Christoph Kramer, Lars Stindl & Marcus Thuram have featured in all five.

Throw in a 2100 mile round trip to Kiev (Shakhtar’s new home due to the war in Donbass) & it’s a lot to ask of this small squad. Shakhtar are sitting pretty at the top of this group & they’ll use their home advantage to get the 3 points.

Prediction – Shakhtar Donetsk Money Line +190
