Champions League Matchday 6 Betting Advice for German Clubs

Posted By Alex Blowers on December 7, 2020

Matchday 5 was looking promising but in the end, only 1 of my 4 bets cashed.

Borussia Dortmund were held to a draw after poor refereeing awarded Lazio a questionable penalty. Bayern Munich’s second string scored a late equalizer & RB Leipzig failed to win by over 1.5 Goals. For the fourth time in the Group Stages this season Borussia Mönchengladbach’s game finished over 3.5 goals.

This week is the final round of Group Games & there’s a strong possibility that all four German clubs can advance to the Knockout Stages.

Hansi Flick will be proud of his players, especially 17 year olds Jamal Musiala & Bright Arrey-Mbi. They held their own against a strong & experienced Atlético Madrid side inspired by the wonderful João Félix. Thomas Müller & Serge Gnabry came on in the 62nd minute & the former stepped up to convert a penalty in the 86th minute. The game finished 1-1 which brings an end to Die Rotten’s record breaking fifteen game winning streak.

With top spot secured Bayern will give the kids & fringe players a run out. They showed in Madrid they are a very capable side & they’ll take this opportunity to impress Hansi. Lokomotiv Moscow have a chance to qualify for the Europa League & they’ll go for the win.

Prediction – Over 3.5 Goals -118

Before this game Dortmund were dealt the blow that Erling Haaland is unavailable for the final games of 2020. The Golden Boy picked up a hamstring tear in training & there’s no other player in the squad with his qualities. Lucian Favre selected club captain Marco Reus to lead the line & BVB got their breakthrough just before half time. Raphaël Guerreiro finished off a slick passing move.

Ciro Immobile equalized from the spot after Sergij Milinković-Savić went down with minimal contact for a penalty. Many fans are claiming it to be one of the worst decisions in Champions League history & referee Antonio Mateu must have been kicking himself when he saw it back. A point was enough to see Dortmund through to the Knockout Stages with a game to spare.

Dortmund have qualified but they’ll want to win the Group to secure better seeding for the Last 16. Marco Reus, Thorgan Hazard & Jude Bellingham should start here after being rested at the weekend. I’m very confident 16 year old Youssoufa Moukoko will feature to become the youngest ever player in the competition.

Zenit have been pretty awful with 1 draw, 4 losses, 3 goals scored & 11 conceded. They have nothing to play for here & Dortmund will get the 3 points to take top spot.

Prediction –Borussia Dortmund -1.5 Goals +200

What a thrilling, end to end, crazy game of football this turned out to be. On 66 minutes Dani Olmo made it 3-1 to Leipzig & the game looked done. Up stepped irfan Can Kahveci who completed his hat-trick on 85 minutes to make the score 3-3. He is one of only three players to score a hat-trick in the Champions League & end up on the losing side. The other two are Gareth Bale when Tottenham lost 4-3 to Inter Milan & Brazilian Ronaldo for Real Madrid who also lost 4-3 to Manchester United.

The game look destined to finish a draw & the goalkeeper, Mert Günok should have done a lot better with Alexander Sørloth’s 92nd minute winner. It hasn’t been the best of starts for the summer signing & he looked relieved to get his first goal for the club. It was a big 3 points for Leipzig who go into the final Group game with their destiny in their own hands.

A win guarantees Julian Nagelsmann’s side passage to the Last 16. A draw would be enough if Baseksehir beats PSG at the Parc des Princes but we all know that is very unlikely. Leipzig have home advantage against a Manchester United side who can go from looking like a club in crisis to world beaters all in the same game.

Leipzig are in a good moment after drawing 3-3 with Bayern at the Allainz Arena. If they produce another performance like that they will roll Ole Gunnar Solksjaer’s side here. With everything on the line I think Leipzig’s young stars will rise to the occasion.

On a side note what rascal suit/garments will Nagelsmann choose for this big European night? Tuxedo? Black Tie?

Prediction –RB Leipzig Money Line +160

This was another exciting, thrilling & high intensity game. Romelu Lukaku was simply unplayable & his 9 minute brace put Inter 3-1 up. Gladbach responded 2 minutes later to set up a tense final 15 minutes with the score at 3-2. They thought they had found an equalizer in the 84th minute but Alassane Pléa’s was ruled offside & it would have been his hat-trick goal. The loss sets up a tense final Group game away to Real Madrid.

There are a lot of permutations that can get Gladbach into the Knockout Stages. To keep it in their hands all Marco Rose’s side need to do is avoid defeat in Madrid. Gladbach have played the best football in the Group & if they hadn’t conceded 90th minute equalizers in their first two games they would already be in the Last 16.

Real Madrid’s squad are in serious need of a revamp. The Galactico signing Eden Hazard hasn’t worked out yet & there’s an over reliance on players way past their prime. Zinedine Zidane is paying the price for not blooding youngsters during his first term as manager & failure to progress will probably cost him his job. Playing their home games at the Training ground whilst the Santiago Bernabéu is renovated has added to teams believing that they can challenge Los Blancos.

With all that being said Real Madrid are still capable of pulling a performance out of the bag & winning this game. It’s a tough call but Gladbach deserve to go through & I’m backing them to do it.

Prediction –Borussia Mönchengladbach or Draw +112
