The insanity of the festive period has claimed another victim: Christian Pulisic.
The American, who had reported tiredness in December, picked up a thigh injury during training prior to the Nottingham Forrest FA Cup match.
Chelsea manager Frank Lampard commented on the injury on Friday:
“It is a damaging miss. Before Christmas he did report a bit of tiredness so he came out of the team and I was worried about him picking up an injury. He was in pain when it happened. He’s a good player that provides competition in wide areas and can make things happen. He was in good form for a period. He picked up an injury a day before the Forrest game. [An] injury in the abductor, a tendon injury. Nasty injury, he was in paid when it happened.”
Premier Injuries lists Pulisic’s condition as an “Adductor Strain” with a potential return date of January 25th.
The Premier League’s festive period is undergoing increased scrutiny. The sheer volume of games is leading to number muscle and tendon injuries. There simply are too many games and not enough recovery time.
Pulisic previously played in the Bundesliga, which enjoys a “winter break” from the action.
