Community Shield 2021 Betting Preview: Leicester City vs Manchester City

WHEN: Saturday, August 7th, 12:15PM EST
WHERE: Wembley Stadium, London, England

The new season kicks off on Saturday with FA Cup winners Leicester City taking on Premier League winners Manchester City in the Community Shield at Wembley stadium.

The Foxes have had a productive summer signing Patson Daka, Ryan Bertrand, and Boubakary Soumaré. All three are quality additions, and Brendan Rogers will be hoping the extra squad depth will help them qualify for the Champions League after missing out again last season. Their pre-season form has been patchy, with one win, two draws, and one defeat scoring seven goals and conceding six.

  • Burton Albion 0-0 Leicester City
  • Wycombe Wanderers 1-0 Leicester City
  • Queens Park Rangers 3-3 Leicester City
  • Leicester City 3-2 Villarreal

Manchester City have broken the Premier League, British, and their own transfer record to bring in Jack Grealish for £100 million from Aston Villa. If you haven’t already, check out Uttiyo Sarkar‘s excellent post on High Press Soccer Grading Grealish’s Transfer.

The Citizens have been in good form pre-season, winning all three games, scoring 10, and conceding one goal. That’s all with a host of first-team players yet to report back from international duty.

  • Manchester City 2-0 Preston North End
  • Manchester City 4-0 Barnsley
  • Manchester City 4-1 Blackpool

Community Shield 2021 Betting Lines - Leicester City, Manchester City

Leicester City Possible Starting Lineup Community Shield 2021

Leicester City will be without Wesley Fofana for the majority of the season after he fractured his fibula against Villarreal on Wednesday in a pre-season game. Fernando Niño scythed him down with a horrendous challenge that was completely unnecessary. The 20-year-old striker should be disgusted with himself and needs to take a long look in the mirror at himself.

Jonny Evans, Timothy Castagne, and James Justin are also missing through injury, leaving Rogers short in defense. Wilfred Ndidi has started the last two preseason friendlies in the back three and will get the nod for this game alongside Filip Benković and Çaglar Söyüncü. Ricardo Pereira and Bertrand will continue in the wing-back positions.

James Maddison will drop into central midfield and partner Youri Tielemans. Up top, I think Ayoze Pérez will continue alongside Jamie Vardy, with Harvey Barnes playing just behind. Daka and Kelechi Iheanacho will have to settle for a place on the bench.

Manchester City Possible Starting Lineup Community Shield 2021

Pep Guardiola will be without Kevin De Bruyne, John Stones, Raheem Sterling, Ederson, and Gabriel Jesus as they recover from international duty. Ferrán Torres and Rodri returned to training earlier this week but are unlikely to feature as well.

That means youngsters Benjamin Knight, Samuel Edozie, and Cole Palmer could all start for Manchester City. American Zack Steffen will deputize between the sticks, and I’m hopeful we will see Grealish feature from the bench.

This game is always tough to call a week before the season starts. It’s difficult to gauge where the two clubs are in their pre-season preparations, and both are missing important first-team players, especially in defense. For that reason, I’m going to kick the season off with a safe bet and back both sides to get on the scoresheet.
