Cristiano Ronaldo has had a rough legal year.
First, he’s still under investigation for rape allegations in Las Vegas (which he firmly denies).
Then, he’s been under trial for tax fraud in Spain. That case was settled today, smacking Ronaldo with a $21.6M fine. He does, however, avoid a 23 month jail sentence.
The case centered on accusations of Ronaldo using a business structure to hide image rights income from 2011-2014.
Ronaldo had requested special security measures to avoid a surge of media at the courtroom, which was denied, as he was forced to enter the building through the front door. His Tuesday court appearance only lasted 15 minutes as he just needed to sign his already negotiated settlement.
