Football returns this weekend in Germany with Round 1 of the DFB-POKAL. The most prestigious cup competition in the country & the only one that is open to every men’s sides at any level.
The 64 teams are comprised of all 36 clubs from the Bundesliga & 2.Bundesliga. The top 4 sides from 3.Liga. The final 24 sides are mainly made up of the winners from each Football Associations Verbandspokal (Association Cup).
What this leaves us with is some interesting contests like amateur side FC Düren who entertain the treble winners Bayern Munich (delayed till October 15th) in a once in a lifetime opportunity. 3.Liga side 1860 München (Winners of the DFB-POKAL in 1964 & Bundesliga Champions in 1966) get a taste of top flight football again as they welcome Eintracht Frankfurt.
There are a total of 31 fixtures this weekend & below is a selection of games. You’ll be hard pressed to find odds for Borussia Mochengladbach, FC Augsburg & Bayer Leverkusen as they face off against amateur sides.

ODDS & ENDS
- With a mixture of professional, semi-professional & amateur sides there’s potential for a big win if you back the right upset. As this is the first competitive game of the season for most of the bigger clubs there’s a good chance we’ll see one.
- Personally I would back FC Schweinfurt at +2200. They’re up against Schalke who last won competitively over 7 months ago in early February & have been seriously impacted financial from COVID-19.
- A Hertha Berlin -134, RB Leipzig -335 & Borussia Dortmund -1000 Parlay is very tempting at +149.
- If you’re feeling a little braver look into a Hertha Berlin -134, VFB Stuttgart -134 & RB Leipzig -335 Parlay at +295.
