DFB-Pokal Quarterfinal Betting Lines and Futures: Five Sides Capable of Winning

Posted By Alex Blowers on March 1, 2021

The DFB-Pokal returns this week for the Quarterfinal stage.

4th tier side Rot-Weiß Essen is the lowest-ranked team left in the competition after knocking Bayer Leverkusen out in the previous round.

Hit me up on Twitter @RegistaPicks with your thoughts, who you support, and picks for the week.

2020-21 DFB-POKAL FUTURES

Here are the futures for the 5 sides I think have a realistic chance of winning the DFB-Pokal:

  • Borussia Dortmund +175
  • RB Leipzig +175
  • Borussia Mönchengladbach +600
  • VfL Wolfsburg +900
  • Werder Bremen +1200

I wrote Dortmund off in the last round, but things can change quickly in Soccer. They have won their last 3 games with 10 goals scored and 2 clean sheets. It looks like Edin Terzic has turned it around, and Dortmund winning the DFB-Pokal would be a great ending to Jadon Sancho’s time in Germany.

Sancho will return to England this summer, and the final would most likely be his last game for the club. Signing off with a piece of silverware would be the perfect ending, and he is back in top form for the final months of the season. The 20-year-old has 5 goals and 5 assists in his last 8 games in all competitions. BVB has become my favorites to win this competition, and I would back them at +175.

Leipzig was only formed in 2009, where they started in the 5th tier of German football. In the last 12 years, they have rocketed through the leagues but are yet to a bride. They have settled for being the bridesmaid so far with a 3-0 defeat in the 2018-19 DFB-Pokal final to Bayern Munich and runners up in the 2016-17 Bundesliga season. They and Julian Nagelsmann will be desperate to add their first piece of major silverware to the trophy cabinets.

The Sports Books have Leipzig at +175, and I don’t think that represents good value. Wolfsburg hasn’t conceded in 8 games in all competitions, and I would put some money behind them at this stage. These games are decided on the night, and I think Oliver Glasner will instruct his players to defend deep, take the game to extra time and try to win it then. Wolfsburg’s squad is in a much better position physically, with no European football clogging up their schedule. Die Wolfe is priced at +900, and I think they still represent the best value.

Two weeks ago, Gladbach announced their manager Marco Rose would be leaving at the end of the season for Dortmund after they activated his €5 million buy-out clause. The players have responded to that news with 3 defeats that include a 2-1 loss to 17th placed Bundesliga side Mainz 05 and a 3-2 defeat to Leipzig after going into halftime 2-0 up. I am staying well clear of them, and I advise you all to do the same.

I think Werder Bremen is worth considering at +1200. They should be beating their opponents this round, SSV Jahn Regensburg, who is midtable in the 2.Bundesliga. A favorable draw against the winner of Rot-Weiß Essen and Holstein Kiel for the semi-finals would be a comfortable path to the final, and anything could happen in that one-off game.

Recommendation: I would put the majority of my money behind Borussia Dortmund at +175 | Invest some money into VfL Wolfsburg who represents the best value at +900 | I would sprinkle a little cash on Werder Bremen at +1200

Let’s take a look at the 2020-21 DFB-Pokal Quarterfinal Betting Lines.

DFB-POKAL QUARTERFINAL BETTING LINES

ODDS & ENDS

  • I like Under 2.5 Goals -110 in Leipzig’s game against Wolfsburg.
  • Werder Bremen will be full of confidence after beating Eintracht Frankfurt 2-1 at the weekend. I would back them on the Money Line at -103.
  • Rot-Weiß Essen has only played once in the last 4 weeks, which was a 3-0 defeat. Holstein Kiel looks to be in better form, having won 3 of their last 4 games, so I would lean towards them progressing to the semi-finals.
  • Gladbach’s squad has lost all 3 games since Marco Rose’s move to Dortmund was announced. Put your money behind BVB on the Money Line at +114.
