Atletico Madrid and Liverpool played another classic Champions League match on Tuesday.
It was spirited and chippy, as to be expected with any Atleti match.
However, the competition was disrespected at the end by Atleti manager Diego Simeone, who sprinted into the tunnel like a coward after the match, refusing to shake Jurgen Klopp’s hand.
Jurgen Klopp plays down the snub
As Simeone’s increasingly shiny dome darted off camera, Klopp looked to shake his hand. But to no avail. The Liverpool boss though played down the snub in his post-match interview:
“We don’t like that but yes the situation is clear. I want to shake his hand. His reaction for sure, like mine, was not so cool. The next time we see each other we will shake hands definitely. It’s nothing. He was obviously angry, not with me but with the game. There is nothing else.”
Liverpool lead Group B
Regardless of the result, Liverpool and Atleti are still positioned to advance from Group B. Having won all three of their matches, Liverpool sit with 9 points, almost assuredly going through. Atletico Madrid are level with Porto on 4 points, but have a better goal differential.
