Five Most Ridiculous January Premier League Transfer Rumors

Written By High Press 10 on January 5, 2020 - Last Updated on January 8, 2020

It’s the winter silly season. Transfer rumors abound. 99% won’t happen.

Here’s a look at the most ridiculous January 2020 transfer rumors.

1. James Maddison to Manchester United for Jesse Lingard.

According to The Mirror, Manchester United is prepared to throw in Jesse Lingard as part of a deal to Leicester for James Maddison. First, after seeing how well Harry Maguire’s transfer has gone at Old Trafford, why (other than wages, obv) would Maddison want to go there? And more hilariously, why the fuck would the Foxes want Lingard in return?

2. Koulibaly to West Ham

West Ham occasionally get tethered to big  name transfers that never happen. The latest surrounds their endless search for a center-back. According to the Daily Express, the Hammers are contenders to sign Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli. This won’t happen. Look for the Hammers to make a play at Aaron Long instead.

3. Timo Werner to Manchester United

Man U will be part of a lot of these. They leak interest in every hot prospect. This summer, all of those headlines landed them Daniel James and Harry Maguire.

Timo Werner is the latest in this line of emerging stars who won’t end up at Old Trafford. Werner is competing for the Bundesliga title in Germany and is still in the Champions League. No move is imminent. And without Champions League football in the near future, Werner has better options.

4. Kylian Mbappe to Liverpool

There are certainly interesting tea leaves to follow on this one. But it’s not Liverpool’s style make these kinds of moves. It’d make an utterly unstoppable team that much more unstoppabler. But Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid has been written in the stars since the the Frenchman was a tween.

5. Zaha to Chelsea

Wilfried Zaha is seemingly constantly linked to transfers elsewhere. The latest surrounds Zaha’s hiring of super agent Pini Zahavi and his links to Chelsea. The move doesn’t fit Chelsea’s target profile (Zaha is 27). He also doesn’t fill a need. Zaha would take minutes away from younger and frankly better producing talents.
