Gregg Berhalter Yet Again Shows He Was the Wrong Hire for USMNT: Canada 2-0 Upset of US

Posted By Chops on October 16, 2019

Here we are again, friends. Barely a month since the last disappointment. Another match, another opportunity for Gregg Berhalter to show he wasn’t the right hire for the USMNT.

Canada hasn’t beaten the US in 34 years. 1985. Until tonight. Canada beat the US 2-0 in the CONCACAF Nations League.

How is this a surprise?

Is anyone truly surprised that an unqualified nepotistic hire isn’t working out for the US?(

Berhalter changes his styles and tactics as much as he changes his outfit. Every match, it’s the same sweater and collared shirt. Every game, it’s the same tired shit from the US.

When asked after the match by Sebastian Salazar what his thoughts were, Berhalter declared with the emotion of someone who just woke from a nap that he was, “Disappointed we didn’t match what Canada was bringing.”

Berhalter is the disappointment

Consider the following:

  • Canada outshot the US 9 (5 on target) to 7 (3 on target)
  • Canada defeated the US for the first time since RONALD REAGAN WAS PRESIDENT
  • Sergino Dest looked at guaranteed playing time for the US vs not even a promise of playing time with the Dutch and said, “Yeah, I’m good. I’ll sit this out.”
  • Berhalter alienated his best player, Christian Pulisic, and the best player in the history of the US men’s program, by yanking him off the pitch after one hour

How’d that last one go?

Steffen, Long show up and shine

Even though the rest of the US team was lifeless and unorganized, credit must be given to Zack Steffen and Aaron Long. Both showed up big tonight. Too bad their manager couldn’t put the team in a position for success.
