That headline is not something I thought I would be typing in February 2019.
Jordan Henderson, Liverpool‘s 29 year-old captain, is the oddsmakers’ favorite to win the 2020 PFA Player of the Year.
And looking at the current field odds — and Liverpool’s likely destruction of all Premier League records — Henderson might just runaway with it.
Considering how everything is working out for him right now, I wouldn’t bet against it.
PFA Player of the Year odds
|Jordan Henderson +137||Sadio Mane +300
|Virgil van Dijk +600||Kevin de Bruyne +600
|Mo Salah +800||Trent Alexander-Arnold +1200
|Roberto Firmino +3300||Jamie Vardy +3300
|Sergio Aguero +4000||Raheem Sterling +5000
Odds & Ends
- Henderson is in the form of this life right now. He’s absolutely deserving to be a favorite. But the favorite? Maybe because Liverpool have so many players deserving of the award–and the PFA ABSOLUTELY MUST GO to a Liverpool player this season–he’s just the easiest choice.
- However, Kevin de Bruyne is the best player in the Premier League this year. And that hurts to type. But he is.
- Mo Salah is still not given the credit he should be for Liverpool’s success. Yes, he won the award two years ago. But he’ll end up leading Liverpool–and maybe the EPL–in goals by the end of the season.
