Liverpool Player Ratings at Arsenal (Carabao Cup Semifinal Leg 2)

Written By High Press 10 on January 20, 2022

Liverpool head to the Emirates to play Arsenal in the second leg of the Carabao Cup semifinal.

The Reds laid an egg last week at Anfield, tying the Gunners 0-0. So whoever wins this one advances to the finals against Chelsea

Jurgen Klopp basically goes with his best available XI, except with Keheller in goal for Alison. And Kaide Gordon gets the nod over Takumi Minamino.

Rough start for the Reds. However, Trent Alexander-Arnold finds Diogo Jota in the 19th minute to put Liverpool up 1-0 at the half.

Another Trent assist and Jota call in the second half cap this one off. Liverpool win 2-0 and advance to the Carabao Cup finals.

Here are Liverpool Carabao Cup player ratings at Arsenal.

Liverpool Carabao Cup Player Ratings at Arsenal

Jurgen Klopp (8) –

Klopp clearly is seeing something in Gordon, giving him the nod over Taki. I have no problem with him giving Kelleher the start either.

Liverpool comes out flat af early. Klopp to his credit is getting on them, yelling to pick it up in the 16th minute.

Caoimhin Kelleher (9) –

It’s good to see his name on the team sheet and not worry even a little bit. Think he got his finger tips on the early Lacazette free kick that hit cross bar. Really calm and assured on the ball. Strong fist deflects a corner in the 61st. Another alert deflection in the 73rd minute.

Lucky to have a back-up this good.

Trent Alexander-Arnold (9) –

Just have a gut feeling Trent goes off today.

While a little slow starting, TAA validates my gut feeling by registering an assist on Jota’s opener. Gorgeous cross in to Gordon who whiffs in the 63rd minute.

Thanks Trent for making me feel smart! Earns an assist brace on Jota’s second. Overall thought he was most complete player on pitch today.

Virgil van Dijk (7) –

Not much to say. Solid and steady. Looking like his old self.

Joel Matip (6) –

Taps in an early corner but was a half yard offside. Dangerous giveaway in the 32nd minute creates a big chance for Arsenal, but Robbo bails him out. Comes out at half-time for Konate.

Andy Robertson (8) –

Key block in the 32nd minute bails out a Matip error. Launching probing balls in but not finding their mark. Really giving Saka all he can handle.

Curtis Jones (7) –

Played great last weekend. Along with Trent, I expect big things from him today.

Wonderful turn and completed dribble up the pitch in the 27th minute. Those are the sparkling moments Jones provides in midfield we need. Quieter in second half but still good all around display.

Jordan Henderson (6.5) –

Darting around the pitch like he’s 22. Effort there if not the end product. Decent second half defending. Subbed off in the 75th.

Fabinho (7.5) –

Wonderful tackle in the 28th saves a dangerous potential shot in the box. Next level defending. Good chance in the 55th minute but instead of going for goal, passes to Jones. Great interception and dribble in stoppage time. This was a classic Fabinho match. Really solid.

Kaide Gordon (4) –

Way too quiet for the youngster. Only sees 1.8% possession in the first half (lowest of the squad, Mo is usually around 3-4%) and connected just 56% of his passes. Misses a sitter in the opening moments of the second half. He’s got to bury those. Would’ve been game over. Whiffs on a cross from Trent and gets yanked. Bright future, just not today.

Roberto Firmino (6) –

Didn’t really connect much or create opportunities in the first half. Starts getting more involved and creative in the second half. Decent off-ball work. Subbed late for Neco.

Diogo Jota (9) –

Quiet opening but then hits Liverpool’s first real chance, putting the Reds up 1-0. Sick finish for a brace to put Liverpool up 2-0.

Ibra Konate (6) – On for Joel Matip at the half. Strong header off Trent corner hits the post.

Taki Minamino (6) – Thankfully comes on for Gordon in the 64th minute. Could be more composed offensively, but tracking back and defending well.

James Milner (NR) – On in the 75th for Hendo.

Neco Williams (NR) – Late sub to protect the lead.

Man of the Match

Hard to pick between Trent and Jota, so let’s give it to them both. An assist brace and a brace brace – they were the difference makers.
