Liverpool Player Ratings at Everton (Merseyside Derby December 1, 2021)

Written By High Press 10 on December 1, 2021

The last time Liverpool played a Merseyside Derby at EvertonJordan Pickford carelessly took out Virgil van Dijk, tearing his ACL and changing the trajectory of the Reds’ season.

Since then…Liverpool have rebounded quite well and are back to being one of the three best teams in the world. Everton has continued being one of the three best teams in Liverpool.

Liverpool start off very much on the front foot. A couple of wasted chances early is immediately rectified by another master strike by Jordan Henderson. Then 10 minutes later, Mo Salah delivers another incredible goal. Liverpool up 2-0 within 20 minutes.

Everton claws one back. And shit starts getting chippy. Yellow cards being thrown around like confetti at a parade. This includes two simulation yellows to Everton for diving. Everton is a friggin’ joke of a club.

At halftime, it’s a very exciting 2-1 Liverpool lead. Also, Everton are a bunch of diving douche thugs.

Things somewhat settle down in the second half. Then Salah pounces on a poor touch at midfield by Seamus Coleman and outraces him to the goal for a brace. Liverpool up 3-1. Diogo Jota scores a wonder goal in the 79th minute. It’s a 4-1 final score as Everton’s supporters and squad embarrass themselves yet again. Goodison Park sounds like Anfield after Toffees supporters all leave early. Hilarious.

Liverpool by the way set a record by scoring more than 2 goals in 18 consecutive matches.

Here are Liverpool player ratings at Everton for the Merseyside Derby.

Liverpool Player Ratings at Everton

Manager

Jurgen Klopp (8) –

Hard to find fault in anything today. Small nit is it’d be nice to see him sub out Salah or Mane earlier just to keep them fresh / from being over-used. But that’s a minor nit.

Goalkeeper

Alisson (6) –

Not much to do for 35 minutes. But could’ve guarded the nutmeg better on Everton’s first.  Not threatened much after that.

Defenders

Trent Alexander-Arnold (7) –

Looks in good form early. Left-footed strike is well-saved by douchebag Pickford. Caught out of position on the Everton opener. But unlucky to not register a goal or assist. Constant threat. Good pass success rate tonight. Lots of possession.

Virgil Van Dijk (7) –

Starting to look more like 2018-19 VVD. Solid defensively save for one casual moment in the second half. Won 6 aerials. Booked but good showing. Also a positive: Pickford and his stupid hair didn’t recklessly tear VVD’s ACL.

Joel Matip (6) –

Played. Don’t remember anything much. But that’s fine.

Andy Robertson (8) –

Back to vintage Robbo. Booming down the flanks. Great run and delivers a perfect ball to assist Hendo’s goal. Another incredible through ball to Jota earns Robbo another assist.

Midfielders

Fabinho (7) –

Very much the fulcrum today. Lots of possession. Like Thiago, passes are missing their mark more than normal. But fills the stat sheet again.

Thiago (6) –

Been in fine form of late. This isn’t one of his best games though. Taking more chances on passes which is fine, but not completing at his usually clip (about 75% today). Couple of completed dribbles and shots. Booked. Subbed off in 75th for Milner.

Jordan Henderson (9) –

Man he’s looking good. Wonder strike to put Liverpool up 1-0. Then a perfectly weighted ball to Mo Salah to earn an assist. Subbed off in 83rd for the Ox.

Forwards

Sadio Mane (6.5) –

Zipping around. Gets three shots off but least impactful of the front 3. Not bad by any means though.

Diogo Jota (7) –

Lots of energy. But needs to stop the histrionics on the diving. So not Liverpool-esque.

Making runs with nothing coming from it THEN OMG WHAT A TOUCH AND FINISH HOLY MOLY OMG. Jota puts Liverpool up 4-1 in the 79th with a sick goal. Wow.

Subbed late for Taki.

Mo Salah (8.5) –

Wasted in front of goal in the opening minutes, squandering a chance. However…20 minutes later…WHAT. A. FREAKING. GOAL. I don’t think most people realize how difficult of a finish that Salah goal is. But watch the touch he uses to position it before the strike. That’s class.

In the 65th minute, takes advantage of a poor touch by Coleman and races from midfield to goal for just another incredible goal.

Salah now has 13 goals for the season, 4 more than Jamie Vardy in second. And idiot lazy hack soccer journalists who voted him 7th for the Ballon D’or are looking more ridiculous by the day. Hilariously in the post-match interview, when asked about finishing 7th, he just laughed and walked away. Well played, Mo.

Substitutions

James Milner (NR) – On in the 75th for Thiago.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (NR) – On late for Hendo.

Takumi Minamino (NR) – On late for Jota.

MAN OF THE MATCH

Tough call between Henderson and Salah, but going with the captain today. His focus set the tone for the squad. His finish and assist were world class.
