Liverpool Player Ratings vs Arsenal (November 20, 2021)

Written By High Press 10 on November 20, 2021

Liverpool have owned Arsenal in the Jurgen Klopp era.

However, Mikel Arteta finally seems to have the Gunners on the upswing. And Liverpool have strung together some disappointing domestic results before the break.

Also, the Reds are minus a total of 8 first-teamers for this one. Out are Divock Origi, Bobby Firmino, Naby Keita (shocker), Andy Robertson, James Milner, Joe Gomez, Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott

Meanwhile, Liverpool’s one summer signing Ibra Konate is on the bench. Lovely.

Will Virgil van Dijk stop with the self-satisfied casual defending? Can Liverpool hold on to a lead?

Arteta knows how important this one is for his squad. He’s as animated as his mentor Pep on the sideline. Or maybe he’s just trying to stay interested, as Liverpool is doing a lot of sideways meaningless possession. The heatedness spills over though, as Arteta and Klopp get into a heated exchange during the 32nd minute. Awesome. Both managers get booked.

A Sadio Mane header late in the half gives Liverpool a 1-0 lead at the break.

The second half is all Liverpool. The Reds turned up the pressing and broke through, with Diogo Jota, Mo Salah, and Taki Minamino all finding the back of the net. End result: Liverpool thrash Arsenal 4-0.

Here are Liverpool player ratings vs Arsenal for November 20, 2021.

Liverpool Player Ratings vs Arsenal

Jurgen Klopp (9) –

Seemed moments away from slugging Arteta in the 32nd minute. Amazing. Gets booked. Got the line-up right and finally urging the lads keep their foot on the gas.

Alisson (7) –

Shaky last domestic outing. Ali usually bounces back from those in a big way. Not challenged much, but comes up with a big deflection in the 65th.

Trent Alexander-Arnold (8.5) –

Along with Tsimikas, TAA is really driving the pace. Some dangerous balls in. Great run and strike with left foot in the 37th, but Ramsdale makes a great deflection to get it level. Utterly perfect free kick ball in finds Mane’s head for the opener in the 40th. Great run and delivery earns him a second assist with Taki’s goal.

Virgil Van Dijk (7) –

This is the VVD we need every match. Calm, assured, solid.

Joel Matip (7) –

Well-positioned all match. Never caught in the wrong spot. Making it hard for Konate to earn minutes.

Kostas Tsimikas (8) –

This is a painful sentence to type, but Tsimikas has looked better than Robbo recently. Strong early, pushing up the flank with confidence. Finds Mo with an inch-perfect ball in the 35th minute for what should’ve been the opener. Defending well. Won 4 tackles. Starting to make a case that he should be the regular starter.

Fabinho (7) –

Hopefully brings some defensive stability to the match. An interception in the first few seconds of the match shows how important he is to this D. Badass sliding interception in the 37th stifles a counter. An absurd 98% pass success rate.

Thiago (8) –

Please don’t get injured.

Looking solid, bossing the midfield with tackles and key passes. Just awesome overall. Two shots on target, almost 9% total possession with a 95% completed pass rate.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (7.5) –

Has looked good of late and gets the start against his old club. Great tracking back and defending in the 17th minute to clear out a dangerous cross. Playing with hunger, creative attempt on goal in second half. Doesn’t get on the score sheet but looked like vintage Ox. Comes off in the 76th for Hendo.

Sadio Mane (8.5) –

Zipping around. Constant threat. Though not getting shots on target despite all the hard work. Gets the deserved goal, heading in the opener towards the end of the first half. Assists on Mo’s second half goal. Great showing.

Diogo Jota (7.5) –

Somewhat quiet first half. However, an interception and clinical finish puts Liverpool up 2-0 early in the second half. Comes off for Taki in the 76th minute.

Mo Salah (8.5) –

Definitely lively early on and buoyed by the Anfield crowd. Poor finish / well-saved by Ramsdale denies Mo a goal in the 35th. The difference between “best player in the world” Mo and “normal Mo” always comes down to how clean his touch is and finishing. He looks like “Normal Mo” again which is still great. Dancing around all over the place. Trying to set teammates up too. Gets a deserved goal to put Liverpool up 3-0.

Mo critical in the build up on the 4th goal, getting the hockey assist as he threaded it to TAA.

Taki Minamino (7) – Comes on and scores almost immediately (at 54 seconds in), putting Liverpool up 4-0. Well done Taki Lad! Playing with tons of confidence. Hopefully this earns him some more deserved minutes.

Jordan Henderson (NR) – Comes on with Taki at the 76th minute.

Tyler Morton (NR) – The 12 year-old makes his Anfield debut, coming on late for Thiago.

Could make the case for Thiago, Kostas, Trent, or even Ox today, but with the goal and assist today’s MotM goes to Mane.
