Liverpool Player Ratings vs Crystal Palace: Will Reds Finish Top 4?

Posted By High Press 10 on May 23, 2021

Supporters are back at Anfield! Liverpool try to complete a remarkable turnaround in form by securing a place in the top 4 and Champions League football today.

On deck is Crystal Palace. With nothing to play for, Palace seem like an ideal team to play today. But it hasn’t been that kind of season. Anything can happen.

Of note: Liverpool are wearing their new kit today. That has to be a jinx or bad omen, yeah? Nervy day to be a Reds fan.

Sadio Mane nets one off a corner, giving the Reds a 1-0 half-time lead.

The second half was a little nervy at times, but Anfield breathed a collective sigh of relief when Mane netted a brace. Liverpool win 2-0 and finish third in the table. Amazing turnaround from just a month ago.

Here are Liverpool player ratings vs Crystal Palace for May 23, 2021.

Liverpool Player Ratings vs Crystal Palace

Jurgen Klopp (10) –

Rolls out the same starting XI as their midweek match against West Brom. Given Klopp a 10 for today. He had the boys ready to play. He trusted the right line-up. He steered this turnaround. And he did little things like pulling Gini so the Liverpool legend could get a proper send off.

Alisson (9) –

Good save in the 4th minute as Palace comes out on front-foot. And another big save in the 6th minute. Mammoth in goal all day. Four crucial saves.

Trent Alexander-Arnold (6) –

In great form of late. Need a class performance from him today. But no. Really poor at first. Horrible turnover almost puts the Reds down early. Solid hit in the 18th just missing a free kick. But overall not his best showing. Booked too.

Rhys Williams (6) –

Ooof. Should’ve buried a header on a corner to put Liverpool up in the 20th minute. Joins Nat by getting a cut on his head. Nothing totally stand out but nothing bad either.

Nat Phillips (6.5) –

Best center-back in England? Using his noggin as usual. Gets bandaged up in the 30th minute for a cut. Otherwise, solid again. Really making an argument to be the preferred pairing with VVD next season.

Andy Robertson (7.5) –

Blue boots helping him pop on the big screen. Playing with real purpose. He wants this. Defending his ass off too. Good stop of a Zaha in the box dribble in the 73rd. Best showing in some time. Way to end the season.

Gini Wijnaldum (7) –

Last game at Anfield? Hope not. Go out on a high note, Gini. Gets captain’s armband. Getting involved more and more in the attack, which really is where he shines. Subbed off early to a rousing ovation. If this is Gini’s last game for us, he went out in style.

Thiago (7) –

Doing crafty, Thiago-things. Didn’t make a dent necessarily on the score sheet but another great display. Should carry over well into next season.

Fabinho (6) –

Slow. Not bossing early on. Improves as game goes on but mostly providing some additional backline cover.

Sadio Mane (9) –

Need something better from him today than he has been of late. Great turn in the 19th minute almost sets Salah up for the opener. Needs his finishing boots, can’t finish a sentence today. And as soon as I type that, he scores. Noice. 1-0 Liverpool.

Mane’s brace in the 74th gives Liverpool the 2-0 lead and likely secures the UCL. If nothing else, shows up when we needed him the most.

Roberto Firmino (7.5) –

Earns assist on Mane’s opener. Link up play overall fantastic. 89% passes completed. Subbed late.

Mo Salah (7) –

Another Golden Boot on the line today. Being serenaded early with the “Mo Salah” song from supporters. Love to hear that.

Mo is going for it today. Finishing off but earns assist on Mane’s second. Had opportunities but will be disappointed missing a couple shots that would’ve given him the Golden Boot.

James Milner (6) –

On for Gini to see out the win. booked.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (NR) –

Late sub, no impact.

Diogo Jota (NR) –

See above.

Sadio Mane finally shows himself! Two goals put Liverpool through to the UCL.
