Liverpool Player Ratings vs Crystal Palace (Sept 18, 2021)

Written By High Press 10 on September 18, 2021

Coming off an insane 3-2 Champions League win over AC Milan where they were clearly the better team for all but 5 minutes, Liverpool look to cut out the mental lapses today very Crystal Palalce.

Having Virgil van Dijk in the starting XI should help that. Not having Naby Keita in the starting XI helps that too. The big news is Jurgen Klopp finally gives Ibra Konate his first start. Lots of rotation. Let’s see how it goes.

Not the best start for the Reds out the gate. However, by the 30th minute they start teeing off. Both teams could’ve had multiple goals by the half. It’s the Reds who go up first though, as Sadio Mane pounced on a deflected save for a screamer. Liverpool go to the half up 1-0.

Powered by a boisterous Anfield, Liverpool turned the screws late in the second half. Scoring goals were Mo Salah and Naby Keita (not kidding!), and Liverpool win 3-0.

With Manchester City dropping points to Southampton (0-0), Liverpool are positioned to mount a real title run.

Here are Liverpool player ratings vs Crystal Palace for September 18, 2021.

Liverpool Player Ratings vs Crystal Palace

Manager

Jurgen Klopp (7) –

I guess it’s a good sign that Klopp trusts his squad so much to rotate like he’s been doing. All in all solid management and subbing from the skipper.

Goalkeeper

Alisson (8) –

Comes up with a huge finger tip deflection early on to ensure the Reds don’t go down in the opening minutes. Some heady play and another clean sheet.

Defenders

James Milner (8) –

Filling in for Trent today and doing well. Firing crosses in like his younger Scouse teammate. Won 4 tackles, took 6 corners. He was everywhere.

Virgil Van Dijk (8.5) –

Just in case anyone still questioned how important he is to this team, his absence on Wednesday showed it. His importance can’t be overstated. Gets an assist on Salah’s goal.

Ibra Konate (7) –

Suspected he would get a start today finally and he does. Ex-Liverpool man Christian Benteke seems to be giving him fits. WTF. Steadies himself as the game goes on. Ok first showing.

Kostas Tsimikis (7.5) –

Nice that we can see his name on the team sheet and not freak out. Appreciate Klopp giving Robbo rest. And it looks like Kostas got a little more sleep than before his last start. Maybe he should play more sleep deprived as his passes aren’t connecting early. Fortunate to not give away a pk after a lazy clip on Benteke. Still, a perfect backup for Robbo and solid day.

Midfielders

Fabinho (6.5) –

Quiet outing.

Thiago Alcantara (7) –

Glad to see him getting some more run. However, does his patented “totally pointless and dangerous foul” in the 11th minute. Gets a good header on target after a gorgeous ball in from Hendo.

Jordan Henderson (8) –

Been so damn good this season. From dribbling to shooting, he looks like his Benjamin Button’d himself back 10 years. Showing Brazilian-level creativity. Smart dummy creates a great opportunity in the 31st. Passing is so on point. Booked in the 40th for a tactical foul on Zaha.

Forwards

Sadio Mane (7.5) –

Would’ve hoped his goal last weekend and some rest would have him playing with confidence, but not so much. Utterly wastes a counter opportunity with an errand cross to no one in the 28th. However, makes up for it right before the half by pouncing on a deflection to put the Reds up 1-0.

Diogo Jota (7) –

Lively early, with a solid header that goes a bit too high. Terrible miss on a total sitter in the 38th. As bad as you’ll see from someone of his quality.

Mo Salah (8.5) –

Active. Passing is on point. Mistimes a volley after Kostas sets him up, could’ve done better. But looking sharp. Pounces on a corner that is well saved, but the deflection leads to Mane’s opener. Murders a volley to put Liverpool up 2-0.

Substitutions

Naby Keita (7) –

He scored. A goal. Not even an own goal. An actual goal. For Liverpool.

Divock Origi (NR) –

On late. No impact.

Curtis Jones (NR) –

On at the 76th minute. A shot and a completed dribble but not enough time to make a mark.

MAN OF THE MATCH

Mo Salah just keeps scoring goals and geting MotM performances. He’s in great form.
