Liverpool Player Ratings vs Lincoln City (Carabao Cup)

Posted By High Press 10 on September 24, 2020

Liverpool don’t care about Carabao Cups. They’ve made that clear.

Still, Jurgen Klopp trots out a strong side. Liverpool waste no time to start thumping poor Lincoln City. This is a good sign for the youngsters coming up. At the 40-minute mark, Liverpool had 94% possession. Absurd. The Reds take a 4-0 lead into the half.

Not a good sign: the teal camo unis. Just not feeling it. Posting our red home kits instead. Where would you hide with teal camo unis?

Liverpool’s defense gets lax again after the half, conceding big chance after big chance. However, Adrian puts in a MotM-worthy performance denying many quality shots. Ultimately Liverpool have too much talent. Lincoln get on the board, but the Reds pound out an entertaining 7-2 win.

Securing victory, Liverpool will now play Arsenal next week in both domestic league play and in the next round of the Carabao Cup.

Here are Liverpool player ratings vs Lincoln City

Liverpool Player Ratings

Jurgen Klopp (9) –

No shocker, Klopp mostly runs with the youngsters. Also, looks like he may be sending VVD a message by throwing him in the starting XI. Love it if so. Rolls out an unconventional 4-1-2-1-2.

All of his attacking players are really pressing and trying to catch his eye. Really like how Klopp handled this one. Extra points for not putting Keita in until the end and not putting Sepp in at all.

Adrian (9) –

Good to see Adrian back between the sticks. Despite his Champions League blunder, people forget how solid he was filling in for Alisson this time a year ago. Decent save in the 20th minute.

Is a fucking wall in the second half, constantly under pressure but making quality saves. Two get past him but Adrian was mammoth today.

Neco Williams (7) –

Was a no-brainer starter. Still, doesn’t look as sharp early as he had been after the restart. Expected more. Does grow into the match though, getting forward well in the second half.

Virgil van Dijk (6) –

Given VVD’s casualness, is Klopp sending him a messaging by making him start this match? Certainly seems so as he’s the only senior regular in the starting XI. Doesn’t really stand out, which…isn’t good! Comes off at the half for Fab.

Rhys Williams (8) –

Where has this 19 year-old center-back been hiding? Looks great. Delivers a helluva long pass to Origi for the hockey assist on Jones’ goal. Really solid defending on Lincoln right before the half denies a goal scoring chance.

Cleans up a sloppy Fabinho mess to save a goal scoring opportunity in the second half. Some quality defending in stoppage time as well. Should see himself onto the team sheet for a league appearance before the season is over.

Konstantinos Tsimikas (6.5) –

Back from COVID and getting his first run as a Liverpool player. Almost suffered an ugly OG with a sloppy clearance in the 28th minute. Corners look Robbo-esqud. Like Neco, also grows into the match, displaying offensive-minded footwork and passing.

Xherdan Shaqiri (7.5) –

Welcome back, Shaq! Delivers a zinger free kick to start the Liverpool scoring. Looking confident and hungry. Playing like his hair plugs are on fire.

Subbed off for The Looks Great in Training Naby Keita after a strong showing. Good to have Shaq back.

Curtis Jones (9.5) –

Along with Neco, another no-brainer starter among the younguns. Hits a wonderful curler for Liverpool’s 3rd goal. And gets a brace with a great turn and finish in the 36th minute.

Jones is legit. Might see a Premier League start soon.

Marko Grujic (7) –

Wow. Grujic starts! Klopp clearly trying to showcase him for a transfer out by October 5th.

Grujic may have netted Liverpool $5m or so with a goal in the 65th minute. Somebody swoop in and buy the lad!

Takumi Minamino (9)-

Klopp puts him as a #10 and he looks good. Confident finish on Liverpool’s second goal. Gets HIS second goal straight after the half.

Leads a blistering counter attack toward the end of regulation, delivering a perfectly weighted pass to Origi for the Reds’ 7th goal. Playing with confidence.

If Taki keeps it up, he’ll earn some starting time ahead of Bobby soon.

Harvey Elliott (6) –

Helps set up Jones’ brace. However, doesn’t get a goal and not his strongest showing. Comes off for Jota.

Divock Origi (7) –

Cheeky header of Williams’ bomb to assist the Jones goal. Mostly quiet but a genuinely clinical finish on Liverpool’s 7th goal.

Fabinho (5) – Comes in for VVD at half. Good effort on a free kick that goes just wide. Some sloppy defending though. Looks like he doesn’t really want to be out there.

Diogo Jota (NR) – Welcome to the squad, Jota! Let’s show you’re really worth $45m and a better buy than Traore!

Jota does not impress in the little time he has on the pitch. Concerning.

The Looks Great in Training Naby Keita (NR) – Comes on late for Shaq to underwhelm us.

Had Adrian kept a clean sheet, might’ve handed him the MotM. But it’s hard to deny Curtis Jones the honors. He was awesome.
