Liverpool Player Ratings vs Porto (November 24, 2021)

Written By High Press 10 on November 24, 2021

Liverpool are back at Anfield, putting their perfect Champions League group stage record on the line with a heavily rotated squad against Porto.

Liverpool are sloppy early while Porto are in full diving / flailing form that literally nobody enjoys watching. Seriously, you blow on these guys and they fall down and start crying.

Miserable first half. Porto probably the better side as Liverpool are playing at half speed. Still, 0-0 after 45 minutes.

Liverpool wake up in the second half. Thiago and Mo Salah score as technically proficient goals as you’ll see. Liverpool stay perfect in group play, beating Porto 2-0.

And congrats to Porto for utterly leaving their manhood in the locker room. Holy moly that’s the biggest group of cry baby divers I’ve seen since every single Atletico Madrid match. Seriously, Atleti and Porto should have a competition to see who can needlessly flail and pretend they’re hurt better.

Here are Liverpool player ratings vs Porto.

Liverpool Player Ratings vs Porto

Manager

Jurgen Klopp (7) –

Don’t totally get Klopp’s rotation today. If you’re spelling all of the big guns, why not rest Salah or Mane? Klopp rights the ship at halftime. Liverpool go up 2-0, and Klopp takes Salah and Mane off for some rest. Shifts to a front three of Ox, Big Div and Minamino because why not.

Goalkeeper

Alisson (6) –

Today’s captain for the Reds. Nothing too challenging in the first half, as Porto flubbed their best chance (and then dived and acted like they were shot in the stomach after missing an easy chance). However, total brain fart in the 59th minute almost gifts Porto an equalizer. Regardless, another clean sheet.

Defenders

Neco Williams (7) –

Spelling the red hot TAA this match. Driving down the flank well. Two solid defensive tackles in first half. Four completed dribbles for the match. Just missing that little extra bit of quality to find that assist or goal.

Ibra Konate (6) –

Liverpool’s big summer signing that we didn’t need is getting some minutes again. Caught out of possession in the 8th minute that almost leads to a Porto opener. Open header in the 20th minute that he sends right at Porto’s goalie Costa. Booked. Meh match.

Joel Matip (7.5) –

Almost OGs it in the 8th minute. Much better after that. Won an absurd 8 aerials. Some well positioned clearances. Solid showing.

Kostas Tsimikas (6) –

Delivery off today. Maybe isn’t used to all of these minutes. A little livelier in the second half. But subbed off for Robbo in the 63rd minute.

Midfielders

Thiago (8) –

Bossed last weekend’s match against Arsenal. Can he bring the same energy today? His connecting play is so good. And then…WHAT A STRIKE. You’ll never see a more technically proficient strike than Thiago’s goal that puts Liverpool up 1-0. Wow. Subbed off soon thereafter for Hendo.

An aside on Thiago: he’s been hounded by rumors about heading back to Barcelona this week. Soccer Media: how lazy and hacky are you? Barcelona has no money. None. They can’t bring anyone in. They literally cannot. La Liga has lowered their cap to a hilariously low figure. Further, what self-respecting player would want to go to that dumpster fire? For veterans, that’s a last stop / out of options option.

Tyler Morton (7) –

Damn. After making his Premier League debut this weekend, Morton earns his first European minutes tonight. Good defensive play stifles a dangerous Porto attack in the 43rd. Can see why Klopp favors him: his defensive work rate is fantastic. Did all the little things that help teams win matches.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (7) –

Getting another deserved start. Making some good runs but nothing coming of it. Going for it. Ambitious attempt in the 61st minute goes just wide. Shifts to forward after Mo and Mane come off. Subbed off late for Milner. Another good showing.

Forwards

Sadio Mane (5) –

Seems stuck in 2nd gear today. However, clinical finish gives Liverpool a momentary lead until VAR somehow rules him offside. He wasn’t. Fuck this match. Wastes a chance in the 65th minute. Subbed off with Salah after Liverpool go up 2-0.

Takumi Minamino (6) –

Yes Taki Lad! Getting a meaningful start finally. But doing little with it in the first half. Scored but called offside. Should’ve made more of his minutes.

Mo Salah (7) –

Sloppy af early. Needs to be rested. Not sure the benefit of starting him this match if the rest of the squad is rotated. Much more bouncy and better in the second half. Some creative flicks and runs. Brilliant run, shimmy, and strike to put Liverpool up 2-0. He’s then subbed off for some well-earned rest.

Substitutions

Andy Robertson (7) – Back from injury. Subbed in for Kostas in the 63rd. Would like to see him refind his form. Good news is he immediately looks like Robbo of old. Penetrating and spirited runs.

Jordan Henderson (7) – Also back from injury. Comes on for Thiago. Immediately starts firing his patented “GOOD LAD!” Gawd he’s great. Then finds Salah on a great ball to put Liverpool up 2-0.

Fabinho (NR) – Comes on for Salah to see the match out.

Divock Origi (NR) – On to rest Mane. Showing some ambition. Using stepovers. Adorable. Looks like 2018-19 Origi tonight.

James Milner (NR) – On late for Ox. Carelessly booked, so he won’t be available for matchday 06.

MAN OF THE MATCH

Gotta go with Thiago today. He bossed the midfield again and scored a worldie.
