Liverpool Player Ratings vs Spurs: Will Liverpool Ever Win Again?

Posted By High Press 10 on January 28, 2021

Liverpool are fifth in the Premier League. Tottenham Hotspur are sixth. Their supporters are infinitely miserable.

Should be a great match!

Both teams start on their front foot and suffer cruelties that are stark reminders of their current form. In under two minutes, Sadio Mane blows a shot he would’ve buried months ago. Then Son is called off-sides on his opener. This one should be lots of fun!

The first half is open and exciting. Roberto Firmino finds the back of the net in the last minute of stoppage to put Liverpool up 1-0.

The second half ends up just as exciting. Martin Atkinson finds a way to screw Liverpool again by calling off a brilliant Salah goal due to a bullshit handball in the build-up. So that’s great.

Regardless, this looked like the Liverpool we’ve all grown to know and love under Klopp. They finish with an impressive 3-1 win, leaving no doubt this time who the better side was.

Anyway, here are Liverpool player ratings vs Tottenam on January 28, 2021.

Liverpool Player Ratings vs Tottenham

Jurgen Klopp (8) –

Finally seemed to push the right button. Right line-up, subs, etc.

Alisson (7) –

Challenged a few times. Nothing he could do about the goal. Steady in distribution.

Trent Alexander-Arnold (9) –

Handling defensive pressure well. Hammers home his first goal of the season with a great laces strike early in the second half. Assists on Mane’s brace. Finally. FINALLY. Trent shows up.

Joel Matip (6) –

Comes up with some massive skillful defending in the 20th to shut down Son in the box. But he lets Son burn him a couple minutes later on a dangerous counter. I believe the word I’m looking for here is “uneven.”

Comes off after 45 minutes with a possible injury.

Jordan Henderson (6) –

Back from injury and in for Fabinho. Will have his hands full with Son and Kane. Gets burned immediately on the Son opener that got ruled offside. Was going to struggle this match, but steadied himself as it went on.

Andy Robertson (6) –

Fairly quiet display for Robbo. Didn’t see as much of the ball as he usually does. Field was tilted towards Trent today.

Thiago (6.5) –

A real creative force driving upfield. Gets a knock and some funny looking bandaging. Would’ve liked to have seen more completed dribbles and penetration but a good showing.

Gini Wijnaldum (7) –

Gini, however, was completing dribbles and distributing. He was everywhere. Good Gini today.

James Milner (7) –

Not sure I like this start. Why not Curtis Jones? Or Shaq? Did better than expecting. Disruptive. Energetic.

Mo Salah (7) –

Some good interplay with Mane early. Wonderful link up with Mane in the 24th that almost leads to an opener. Looking confident early in the second half getting a great attempt off. Scores a screamer that’s called off due to Atkinson’s biased bullshit officiating. Deserved a goal for his efforts today.

Roberto Firmino (8) –

Touch is a bit off. Working hard. Taking shots. Earns a goal right at the end of stoppage after Mane finds him after some good build-up. Took shot and was hungry for goals.

Sadio Mane (9) –

Blows a chance with the opposite of a “confident” and “clinical” finish in the 2nd minute. Ugh. Wonderful run after linking up with Salah in the 24th that Lloris does well to save. Makes up for the poor finishing by rolling a ball across the box to Firmino right at the end of first half stoppage to put the Reds up 1-0. Great finish in the second half to put the Reds up 3-1.

Nat Phillips () – On at the beginning of the second half for Matip.

Curtis Jones () –

Divock Origi () –

Going with Mane on this one. After missing that opener, he was possessed.
