Liverpool Player Ratings vs West Brom – OMG ALISSON’S HEADER

Written By High Press 10 on May 16, 2021 - Last Updated on May 17, 2021

Well, Liverpool win their last 3, they should make the top 4.

Things didn’t get off to a good start, as West Brom gets on the board early after some poor defending. However, the front three started clicking as the first half went on, and Mo Salah nets an equalizer to bring it 1-1 at the half. Liverpool dominated possession (74%) and shots (13/5 vs 5/1) during the first 45 minutes. They need to convert all of these opportunities to goals though in the second half (duh).

Which they did not at all.

Until they did.

On the final play of the match.

As Alisson (!!!) runs up to be an extra body on the corner. And delivers the best header you’ll see all season. Somehow, against all logic and reason, Liverpool pull this match out 2-1. They’re now 1 off Chelsea for the final Champions League spot.

Here are Liverpool player ratings vs West Brom Albion for May 16, 2021.

Liverpool Player Ratings vs West Brom

Jurgen Klopp (6) –

It’s not that the lads were bad. They were clearly the better squad. But Klopp seemed almost resigned at a draw. He wasn’t his typical prodding and cajoling self. But hey, 3 points!

Alisson (100000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000) –

Alisson earns the highest score imaginable. Don’t even know what else he did in this match nothing else matters holy shit.

Trent Alexander-Arnold (8) –

Playing with a lot of confidence and purpose. Really pushing himself, this game matters to him. Some great tracking back and aggressive defending in second half. Wastes a great chance in the 83rd to put Liverpool ahead. Makes up for it with a dime perfect corner, assisting Alisson’s winner.

Ryhs Williams (6) –

Klopp keeps Fab in midfield, giving the youngster another start. Gets caught in no man’s land on the West Brom opener. Otherwise ok. Subbed off late for Gini.

Nat Phillips (7) –

Best center-back in England? Really solid again. Playing with more and more confidence every match.

Andy Robertson (6) –

Another quiet offensive display. He’s not playing poorly of late, necessarily, but he’s not vintage Robbo either.

Curtis Jones (5) –

Gets the nod as Gini gets a breather. Really quiet. Doing a good “Bad Gini” impersonation. Subbed off in the 59th for Shaq after no shots, no tackles, no dribbles.

Thiago (8) –

Getting better every match. Seeing a ton of the ball, leading the team in possession in the first half. Some good advancement via through-balls / key passes. Really going for it. Lots of long range shots that are just missing. Great slide tackle late to create a chance. Playing so well. Overall our best player today though he’s not getting MotM.

Fabinho (6.5) –

Was assertive. Three shots today and lots of well placed passes. Shifted to center-back at the end of the match.

Sadio Mane (6) –

Back in the starting XI and hopefully with a better attitude. Earns an assist on Salah’s goal. All back to normal.

Lackadaisical getting back on-side and has a goal ruled off early in second half. Other than the assist, not his best showing.

Roberto Firmino (7) –

Great linking up in general and build up on the Salah goal. Unlucky to see shot hit woodwork. But looking like Bobby of old.

Mo Salah (8) –

Kane scored one earlier, so watch Salah go off for something big today. However, a little wasteful early on. And the literal second I typed that, Mo clinically finishes with a one-touch shot from top of the box to level it.

Xherdan Shaqiri (6) –

On in the 59th minute for Jones. Looking rough. Poorly weighted passes and poor first touch. Got better in the last 10 minutes.

Gini Wijnaldum () –

On late to give the club an offensive boost. Playing with boundless energy.
