Who: Manchester United vs Chelsea
When: Wednesday, July 23rd @ 1:00pm ET
Line: Man U -420 | Draw +550 | Chelsea +1050
Manchester United saw their 19-match, six-month-long undefeated streak come to a disappointing end when Chelsea served them humble pie in the FA Cup semi-finals. The Red Devils will now hope their 12-match Premier League undefeated streak in a vital game against a rejuvenated West Ham United side.
With Leicester City having suffered a bad loss to Tottenham Hotspur, a win can now take United into third place in the Premier League! Despite losing momentum in the recent loss, United still have enough quality to overpower West Ham. It remains to be seen whether they’re mentally strong enough to cope up under the severe pressure of this final stretch.
Manchester United Predicted XI
De Gea, Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire, Williams, Matic, Pogba, Fernandes, Greenwood, Rashford, Martial.
Luke Shaw is still a doubt for the game, while Eric Bailly, Axel Tuanzebe & Phil Jones are unavailable.
West Ham United Predicted XI
Fabianski, Johnson, Diop, Ogbonna, Cresswell, Soucek, Rice, Bowen, Yarmelenko, Fornals, Antonio.
David Moyes’ side have a couple of injury problems, with Robert Snodgrass & Ryan Fredericks ruled out.
Manchester United vs West Ham United preview
The Red Devils saw all their momentum come crashing down in the defeat to Chelsea, but looking back at it, they weren’t motivated enough to win either. Frank Lampard’s side had the hunger to win, while United were too bothered playing it careful to keep themselves fit the next league games.
Well, now it’s time to prove that they were right to preserve their batteries. Anthony Martial & Mason Greenwood were both rested at the weekend, so all eyes will be on those two. Martial’s in sublime form having scored in his last 5 games at Old Trafford. With his sizzling movement, new-found ability to outmuscle defenders & deadly finishing around the penalty area, he’ll be United’s focal point in attack.
Greenwood needs to improve his game after suffering a slight dip in form. Instead of anything else, he must try to get a few thunderous shots off his dangerous feet. Marcus Rashford should also be back at his blistering best with Martial by his side & look to terrorize young Ben Johnson with his pace & trickery if he’s to create definitive chances.
Bruno Fernandes & Paul Pogba remain the creative hub, but they’ll need to be more accurate with their final delivery to open the fireworks. While there isn’t much doubt about United’s attacking prowess anymore, they have problems defensively. David De Gea is making schoolboy errors, repeating which could cause disaster.
Not only De Gea, but Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof & Aaron Wan-Bissaka all need to be more reliable defensively to soothe United’s nerves. West Ham have been on song in recent weeks, picking up big wins to avoid relegation.
Michael Antonio is dripping in goals right now and can score at the slightest given opportunity. Andriy Yarmelenko is another unpredictable striker, while Jarrod Bowens &Pablo Fornals are two tricky players more than capable of carving up definitive chances. United-linked Declan Rice is another workhorse that can outperform anyone on his given day.
United need to be professional, clinical & at their free-flowing best to get past this test. They NEED TO WIN to take one step closer to Champions League qualification and head into the final game-week high in confidence.
This will be a nervy battle for Man United after the loss. But I’ll go with a 3-1 win for them to move into the PL top-4.
