With the sacking of Unai Emery, Arsenal are looking for a new manager. Freddie Ljungberg has been named caretaker. Like with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Manchester United, maybe a short-term solid run fools Arsenal into making Ljungberg a permanent and almost instantly regrettable hire.
If that doesn’t happen, the favorites to get the Arsenal job are an assortment of the usual suspects with one fresh name you don’t hear bandied about as much.
Next Arsenal manager odds
Here’s who oddsmakers view as the favorites to land the Arsenal job permanently.
|Who replaces||Unai Emery?|
|Massimiliano Allegri +150||Nuno Espirito Santo +400|
|Mikel Arteta +600||Freddie Ljungberg +600|
|Mauricio Pochettino +1000||Rafa Benitez +1200|
|Brendan Rodgers +1600||Patrick Vieira +1600|
Wolves’ Nuno Espirito Santo is certainly interesting. He coaches an Arsenal-style brand of football. For him to be the hire though, Arsenal would likely have to wait until the summer. Are they willing to do so when other qualified candidates are available?
Massimiliano Allegri will be the top name mentioned for any job. He’s expressed concern though about the Gunners position. We are big believers at High Press Soccer that Arsenal should go all-in for Mauricio Pochettino (even if he publicly claims he’d never do it). If it’s not Poch, Arsenal should turn their immediate focus to Rafa Benitez. He’d get them competing again immediately.
