Premier League Betting 21/22: Arsenal vs West Ham Betting Preview

Written By Alex Blowers on December 13, 2021

Matchday 17 brings us a pivotal game in the battle for fourth place. Arsenal last played in the UEFA Champions League 2016/17, and Mikel Arteta would love to be the manager who brings Europe’s biggest club competition back to The Emirates. Their opponents West Ham are looking to qualify for the first time in their history.

Premier League Betting: Arsenal vs West Ham Betting Preview

Out: Sead Kolašinac (Ankle)
Doubtful: Bernd Leno (Groin), Pierre-Emerick Aubamayang (Disciplinary Issues)
Suspended: None
Coach: Mikel Arteta

Arsenal’s win at the weekend was overshadowed by the decision to drop Pierre-Emerick Aubamayang from the squad. He returned late from a sanctioned overseas trip, and this is the second time he has been punished in six months. In March this year, the Arsenal captain was left on the bench in the North London Derby after traffic caused him to be late for the game.

Both times Mikel Arteta has gone public with Aubamayang’s offenses, and it makes you wonder if he’s trying to force him out of the club. The 32-year-old is Arsenal’s top earner and has struggled in the last two seasons, managing 14 goals in 43 Premier League appearances. Arteta’s transfer policy has been focused on signing younger players to lower the squad’s age profile. You could probably split Aubamayang’s £250,000 a week wages between three or four players.

Alexander Lacazette opened the scoring on Saturday and will continue up top. His contract expires in the summer, and I think he will leave to find more minutes in the hope of making France’s 2022 Qatar World Cup squad.

After overcoming his groin injury, Arsenal’s top scorer in the league, Emile Smith Rowe, was fit enough to make the bench on Saturday. He could take Gabriel Martinelli’s place in the starting lineup if the club deem him fit enough to start. That will be the only change we will see from the side that beat Southampton 3-0.

Premier League Betting: Arsenal vs West Ham Betting Preview

Out: Ryan Fredericks (Unknown), Ben Johnson (Hamstring), Angelo Ogbonna (ACL), Kurt Zouma (Hamstring)
Doubtful: Aaron Cresswell (Back)
Suspended: None
Coach: David Moyes

David Moyes is facing a defensive crisis that could derail The Hammers season.

The club has lost its two best center-backs for the foreseeable future. Kurt Zouma’s hamstring injury has ruled him out for the next six to twelve weeks, and Angelo Ogbonna’s season is over after injuring his ACL in the 3-2 win over Liverpool. Issa Diop and Craig Dawson will fill in with youngsters Ajibola-Joshua Alese and Jamal Baptiste providing backup from the bench.

At full-back, Ben Johnson and Ryan Fredericks are out, and Aaron Cresswell is a doubt. 20-year-old Harrison Ashby was the only backup in Sunday’s 0-0 draw with Burnley, and we could see him make his Premier League debut during the busy Christmas schedule.

In attack, Pablo Fornals will be restored to the starting lineup, with Manuel Lanzini making way.

ARSENAL VS WEST HAM PREMIER LEAGUE BETTING TIPS

This season, Arsenal have won eight games, and five of those have come against the current bottom, five teams. Against the bigger sides, The Gunners have taken some heavy beatings losing 2-0 to Chelsea, 5-0 to Manchester City, and 4-0 to Liverpool.

West Ham are one of the best sides outside of the current top three and have faired much better against them, beating Liverpool and Chelsea 3-2 and losing 2-1 to Manchester City.

Despite their defensive injury issues, I think David Moyes’s side will get the win
