Premier League Betting 21/22: Burnley vs Watford Betting Preview

Written By Alex Blowers on December 14, 2021

Matchday 17 brings us a relegation six-pointer between Watford and Burnley. These two sides’ best chance of survival is beating the teams around them, and we’re in for a tense and thrilling contest.

Premier League Betting: Burnley vs Watford Betting Preview

Watford’s decision to fire Xisco and appoint Claudio Ranieri hasn’t paid off. Since taking over, the Premier League winner has won twice, lost seven, conceded 21 goals, and scored 14. If this form continues, there’s a good chance we will see another managerial change at Vicarage Road in the near future.

Sean Dyche is the life and soul of Burnley football club. The board will stick with him through thick and thin and would ask him to stay on if they were relegated to the Championship.

The game is scheduled to kick off Wednesday at 2:30 PM EST and will be shown live on Peacock.

Coach: Sean Dyche

Sean Dyche will be happy with Sunday’s result and his goalkeeper’s performance but disappointed with the ten outfield players. West Ham dominated proceedings and would have got all three points if not for Nick Pope’s heroics.

Burnley’s best attacking opportunities came from set-pieces and on the counter. Jay Rodriguez had a great chance in the 90th minute but failed to connect with Charlie Taylor’s low cross. Maxwel Cornet is the club’s top goalscorer with five. He will take Rodriguez’s place in the starting lineup when he fully recovers from his thigh injury.

Josh Brownhill will be recalled with Jóhann Gudmundsson making way. I think that will be the only changes Dyche makes as he looks to guide his side to their second win of the season to lift them out of the bottom three.

Out: Kwadwo Baah (Fractured Ankle), Oghenekaro Etebo (Torn Quadricep), Nicolas N’Koulou (Hamstring), Ismaïla Sarr (Knee)
Doubtful: Ben Foster (Groin)
Suspended: None
Coach: Claudio Ranieri

Watford were unlucky to lose 2-1 to Brentford on Friday night. Defensively they were solid for 80 minutes, but as the final whistle approached, nerves crept in, and they couldn’t see the game out.

Poor marking allowed Pontus Jansson to equalize at the back post. Deep into injury time, William Troost-Ekong made a rash sliding tackle on Samos Ghoddos to give away a penalty for Brentford’s second.

I think Ranieri will keep faith in the same eleven despite the disappointment. That’s a lot of positives to take from the performance, and Ranieri will focus on building confidence and eradicating individual errors.

First-choice goalkeeper Ben Foster has been sidelined with a groin injury and could replace Daniel Bachmann between the sticks. Fans were angered by stories circulating Foster picked it up playing in a charity game for Hashtag United.

Foster responded to the rumors by posting: “Hi guys just to clear this up, unfortunately, I injured my groin in training on the Thursday before the Leicester City game.”

The Hornets have relied heavily on Emmanuel Dennis in recent weeks. The former Club Brugge forward has scored four of their last six goals, and James Tarkowski and Ben Mee will give him extra special physical treatment.

Burnley have kept three clean sheets this season, and two have come in their last three matches. With the Turf Moor crowd behind them, I think Dyche’s side will contain Watford’s attack, who have failed to score in seven of their 16 Premier Leagues games.

Back Burnley’s defense to record back-to-back clean sheets.
