Premier League Betting: Chelsea vs Manchester City Match Preview

Out: None
Doubtful: Christian Pulišić (Ankle)
Suspended: None
Coach: Thomas Tuchel

Chelsea’s only injury concern is USMNT star player Christian Pulišić who is still recovering from an ankle injury. No.1 Goalkeeper Edouard Mendy is expected to be fit after missing the last two games with a knock.

Ben Chilwell will drop to the bench for Marcos Alonso after making his first start of the season against Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup midweek. I think Reece James will keep his place at right wing-back with César Azpilicueta dropping into the back three. The English international was outstanding in the Champions League final back in May.

Kai Havertz will continue to partner Mason Mount behind Romelu Lukaku. N’Golo Kanté will partner Jorginho in central midfield. Chelsea missed his energy, tenacity, and fight in the first half against Tottenham last weekend.

Premier League Betting: Chelsea vs Manchester City Match Preview

Out: Aymeric Laporte (Abductor), John Stones (),
Doubtful: Oleksandr Zinchenko (Unknown), Rodri (Knock)
Suspended: Benjamin Mendy (Police Investigation)
Coach: Pep Guardiola

Kevin De Bruyne and Phil Foden completed 90 minutes in City’s 6-1 win over Wycombe Wanderers in the Carabao Cup. Due to the importance of this game, I’m confident Pep Guardiola will risk starting De Bruyne. The Belgian’s creativity will be key to breaking down Chelsea’s defense.

Foden could also start, but I think he will be introduced from the bench. Jack Grealish and Gabriel Jesus have started the season well, and Pep will keep faith in them. Riyad Mahrez is also a possibility and will be full of confidence after scoring twice midweek.

Aymeric Laporte and John Stones have both returned to training but are unlikely to be included. That means Nathan Aké will keep his place at center back alongside Rúben Dias. With no other options available, João Cancelo will continue at left-back. Oleksandr Zinchenko is a doubt, and Benjamin Mendy has been suspended by the club after being charged with four counts of rape and one of sexual assault.

Me and Tyler Everett discussed the game on this week’s High Press Pod, and I struggled to come up with a pick then. On paper, these two sides are evenly matched, and that’s reflected in the Sportsbooks Lines.

On current form, I would say Chelsea are in a better place and stronger in attack with Lukaku leading the line. Manchester City haven’t conceded since the opening game of the season. They are looking strong in defense, averaging 0.5 Expected Goals against them per game and limiting opponents to 6.2 shots a game.

Ferran Torres has started the season well for Manchester City, but he’s yet to prove himself in a big game and only managed two shots on target against Tottenham and Leicester City. Chelsea’s back three has also been solid, conceding just one goal, which was a penalty.

Taking all of that into consideration, I’m going to put my money behind this being a low-scoring game.
