Premier League Betting 21/22: Everton vs Liverpool Betting Preview

Written By Alex Blowers on November 30, 2021

Liverpool make the short journey to Goodison Park to take on Everton in the Merseyside Derby. Rafa Benítez will be hoping the old football cliche ‘form goes out the window ‘will be valid for this game. The Toffees have taken five points from the last 27 available and haven’t won in the Premier League since September. Jürgen Klopp‘s side has taken 18 points in the same period losing just once and in the title race.

We could see some bad blood between the players after what happened in this fixture last season. Jordan Pickford sythed Virgil van Dijk down with a reckless lunge that ruptured his ACL and ended his season. It was a horrendous challenge, and VAR should have punished Pickford, but the official was too focused on making the offside call.

This is the first time they have played each other since, and it will be interesting to see how van Dijk chooses to interact.

The game is scheduled to kick off Wednesday at 3:15PM EST and will be shown live on NBCSN.

Suspended: Mason Holgate
Coach: Rafa Benitez

Benitez loves to set up his sides in a 4-4-2 formation, but I wonder if a 4-3-3 would be better suited for this game. Fabian Delph is available and could do a great job anchoring the midfield. That would give Abdoulaye Doucouré more freedom, and a front three of Richarlison, Demarai Gray, and Andros Townsend could cause Liverpool problems with their pace on the counter.

Mason Holgate is serving the final game of his three-match suspension after getting sent off against Tottenham. Salomon Rondon will drop to the bench for Richarlison, who has completed his one-match ban for accumulating five yellow cards.

Gray should start this game after managing 20 minutes in Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Brentford.

Coach: Jürgen Klopp

I think Klopp will pick the same starting eleven that beat Southampton 4-0 at the weekend. Joël Matip could return, but I think Ibrahima Konaté‘s pace and strength make him better suited to handle the speed of Everton’s frontline.

Liverpool fans will be happy to finally be seeing the best of Thiago Alcântara. The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich midfielder is starting to impose himself, dictate games, and has scored in his last two outings. The challenge now is keeping him fit, and don’t be surprised if Klopp chooses James Milner or Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain instead.

Roberto Firmino‘s injury means Takumi Minamino and Divock Origi are the only established backups available up top.

Everton are in terrible form, and I can’t see them turning it around against this rampant Liverpool side, who have become the first team since Sunderland in 1927 to score at least two goals in 17 successive matches.

Back Klopp’s side to start well, dominate the game and collect all 3 points.
