Premier League Betting 21/22: Leicester City vs Tottenham Betting Preview

Written By Alex Blowers on January 19, 2022

We are midway through January, and it’s ridiculous that games are still being called off. Burnley vs. Watford is the latest match after the Premier League accepted a request from Sean Dyche‘s side, who are now five fixtures off the pace. With four months left in the season, we will have multiple midweek Matchdays as each club tries to fulfill all of its fixtures.

Another club that will be busy are Leicester City. This will be their first Premier League match in 23 days, and they will be three fixtures behind the pace. Brendan Rodgers‘s side have UEFA Europa Conference League and FA Cup commitments. Deep runs in those competitions will put a huge physical demand on their players.

Their opponents Tottenham are in a similar position. After this match, Antonio Conte‘s side will also be three fixtures off the pace, although they don’t have any European football commitments.

The game is scheduled to kick off Wednesday at 2:30 PM EST and will be shown live on USA and Telemundo.

Premier League Betting: Leicester City vs Tottenham Betting Preview

Out: Kelechi Iheanacho (Africa Cup of Nations), Wilfred Ndidi (Africa Cup of Nations), Daniel Amartey (Africa Cup of Nations), Nampalys Mendy (Africa Cup of Nations), Wesley Fofana (Broken Ankle), Ryan Bertrand (Knee), Jonny Evans (Thigh), Jamie Vardy (Hamstring), Ricardo Pereira (Broken Leg)
Doubtful: Boubakary Soumaré (Illness), Timothy Castagne (Muscular)
Suspended: None
Coach: Brendan Rodgers

Rodgers continues to deal with several injuries and players away at the Africa Cup of Nations. James Justin, Patson Daka, Caglar Söyüncü, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, and Luke Thomas are all back to ease the crisis that has engulfed the club in recent weeks.

Boubayaky Soumaré is close to recovering from an illness. If he’s passed fit for this match, I think we will see him start on the bench. Wesley Fofana was expected to return at the start of the year but has suffered an injury setback. It’s unknown when the 21-year-old will play again this season.

Club legend Jamie Vardy is expected to be out till April after playing with a hamstring injury in the 1-0 win over Liverpool.

Out: Heng-Min Son (Muscular), Christian Romero (Hamstring), Eric Dier (Muscular)
Doubtful: None
Suspended: None
Coach: Antonio Conte

Conte’s response to Heung-Min Son‘s injury was to switch to a 3-5-2 for the second leg of their Carabao Cup semifinal against Chelsea. I think he will continue with this formation until the South Korean international returns in early February.

That will delay Tanguy Ndombélé‘s exit from the club. Conte has deemed him surplus to requirements, and the former Olympique Lyonnais player is expected to leave on loan. His wages and the $72 million transfer fee Spurs paid for his services make it difficult to move him on permanently.

Sergio Reguilón was touch and go for the North London Derby and should start after having a few extra days to recover. Matt Doherty or Ryan Sessegnon will take his place at right wing-back if he doesn’t make it.

Steven Bergwijn is back in training and will start on the bench.

Leicester have only played once in the last 23 days, and that was a 4-1 victory over a weakened Watford side in the FA Cup. It’s difficult to know what kind of moment they’re in and if the time off has had a positive or negative effect on their players.

Tottenham are in a good moment and remain undefeated in the PL under Conte, winning five and drawing three. For Spurs to push on, they need to start scoring goals, and Leicester are the perfect opponent. Defensively they have been poor this season, allowing their opponents to score two or more goals in 11 of their 18 fixtures.

With Caglar Söyüncü only just returning from injury, he could struggle against an in-form Harry Kane, who has three goals in his last five appearances. The England Captain is available at +115 To Score Anytime. I rate this bet, but his odds are a little short for my liking, and I will be passing on this one.

Back Spurs to score two goals or more.
