Premier League Betting 21/22: Liverpool vs Arsenal Betting Preview

Written By Alex Blowers on November 18, 2021

This weekend’s marquee Premier League fixture sees Liverpool take on Arsenal. Jürgen Klopp’s side comes into this game a little shaky in form after letting a two-goal lead slip to draw with Brighton and losing 3-2 away to West Ham. Mikel Arteta’s side are one of the league’s in-form sides right now on a ten-game unbeaten run. They won’t make it easy for Liverpool, and three points for The Gunners will take them into the Top 4 and above them in the league.

The game is scheduled to kick off Saturday at 12:30PM EST and will be shown live on NBC.

Coach: Jürgen Klopp

Sadio Mané is expected to start. The decision to sub him in Senegal’s draw with Togo was a precautionary one. James Milner and Jordan Henderson have returned to training and could be available.

Andrew Robertson is a major doubt after injuring his thigh in Scotland’s 2-0 win over Denmark. Konstantinos Tsimikas is expected to deputize in his fourth Premier League start of the season.

Coach: Mikel Arteta

Arsenal have won their last three Premier League games playing this 4-2-3-1/4-4-1-1 formation which gives me confidence they’ll continue to set up this way. Arteta’s best central midfielders are unavailable. Granit Xhaka is out, and Thomas Partey is a major doubt after picking up a groin injury before the international break.

We will see Albert Sambi Lokonga and Ainsley Maitland-Niles continue in central midfield with Emile Smith Rowe and Bukayo Sake on the flanks. Martin Ødegaard will feature from the bench, most likely for Alexander Lacazette. Club captain Pierre-Emerick Aubamayang has rediscovered his form and will lead the line.

Takehiro Tomiyasu, Benjamin White, and Gabriel have cemented their places in the backline. Nuno Tavares has impressed in recent games but will drop to the bench for Kieran Tierney. The former Celtic player helped Scotland qualify for the 2022 Qatar World Cup playoffs, and this will be his first appearance for The Gunners in nearly a month.

I’ll hold my hands up and admit I questioned Arsenal’s decision to pay $33.6 million for Aaron Ramsdale. I felt the money could have been spent on other areas of the squad and didn’t believe he could dislodge Bernd Leno. I’ll have myself a big slice of humble pie because Ramsdale has been excellent between the sticks and just made his first England appearance against San Marino. A great piece of transfer business.

This is a tough game to call. Arsenal are in a good moment, and Arteta has done a great job of turning things around after their poor start to the season. They will turn up for this game and be full of confidence after looking at their opponent’s injury list.

Liverpool have home advantage and are still able to field a strong starting eleven despite their injury concerns. The issue facing Klopp is he doesn’t have quality options from the bench if and when he needs to make changes. Divock Origi and Takumi Minamino could be the only established midfielder and forward available.

I will play this one safe and recommend you back Arsenal on the Spread at +1.5 Goals. I think the result could go either way, and if Liverpool wins, I don’t think it will be by a big scoreline.
