PREMIER LEAGUE MATCHDAY 06 ROUNDUP
BRUNO FERNANDES APOLOGIZES FOR PENALTY MISS
In injury time, Manchester United were awarded a penalty against Aston Villa and were trailing 1-0. Cristiano Ronaldo was on the pitch, and we all expected him to step up and convert to grab United a point.
However, his international teammate Bruno Fernandes was entrusted with the responsibility, and he blazed the ball over the bar. Naturally, after such a crucial miss, any player would want to apologize to the fans.
But a five-paragraph groveling apology is a little over the top. I would expect something like this if the game was a cup final or a miss at the end of the season that cost them Champions League qualification, not a Premier League match six games into the season.
PRESSURE MOUNTING ON NUNO ESPÍRITO SANTO
Life for a Premier League manager can change very quickly. Tottenham finished August top of the table, and Nuno Espírito Santo was awarded the Manager of the Month award for Spurs‘ perfect start.
A month and three defeats later, things aren’t looking so rosy at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Pressure is mounting on Nuno after the club slipped to 11th in the table, and oddsmakers in England have him as the fifth favorite to be sacked next at +900.
Tottenham’s next four fixtures are Aston Villa, Newcastle, West Ham, and Manchester United. Nuno needs to win two of these at a minimum, or he could find himself out of a job come Halloween.
BRAVE BRENTFORD FIGHT BACK TO WIN A POINT
Brentford have taken to life in the Premier League very well, picking up 9 points from two wins, three draws, and a defeat. Their best performance came this weekend against Liverpool, where they battled back from 2-1 and 3-2 down to draw 3-3.
Manager Thomas Frank praised his side’s bravery for competing with one of the best sides in the country for the full 90 minutes. If they continue to perform like this, they will secure their Premier League status very comfortably.
DraftKings have them at -900 not to be relegated and +500 to be relegated, representing how strongly the Sportsbooks rate their chances.
PREMIER LEAGUE BETTING: MATCHDAY 07 LINES
PREMIER LEAGUE BETTING TIPS
- Burnley are good value at -115 on the Moneyline. Sean Dyche‘s side have built their Premier League survival on beating the sides around them and I think they will beat Norwich City comfortably, who have lost all six of their matches.
- I like Leeds United Moneyline at -135. Marcelo Bielsa‘s side haven’t won a game yet but I think that will change this weekend when they host newly-promoted Watford at Elland Road.
- I recommend avoiding Crystal Palace vs. Leicester City and Tottenham vs. Aston Villa. Spurs and Leicester both have Europa Conference League games Thursday night that could be a distraction.
- I also recommend avoiding Brighton vs. Arsenal. Graham Potter‘s side have started the season collecting 13 points from a possible 18, and Mikel Arteta‘s side are in the ascendancy after winning their last three matches.
