Premier League Betting 21/22: Matchday 09 Lines and Tips

Written By Alex Blowers on October 20, 2021

Matchday 09 features one of the biggest rivalries in world football and the game will be shown live on NBCSN with kick-off scheduled for Sunday 11:30AM EST. Manchester United (66 trophies) and Liverpool (65 trophies) are the two most successful clubs in English football. Their feud intensified during the 1990s when Liverpool began to fall, and Manchester United started to rise again under Sir Alex Ferguson, reaching a boiling point in September 2002

United were trailing Arsenal by six points after seven games, and the Gunners had won the Premier League at Old Trafford the previous season. The pressure was mounting on Ferguson, and former Liverpool defender Alan Hansen claimed that he was facing “the greatest challenge of his career.”

Ferguson was having none of it and told The Guardian Newspaper, “My greatest challenge is not what’s happening at the moment, my greatest challenge was knocking Liverpool right off their f*cking perch. And you can print that.”

Let’s take a look at the 2021-22 Premier League Matchday 09 Betting Lines and Tips.

Before kick-off, St James Park was rocking with Newcastle fans packing out the stadium to celebrate the new owners and the end of Mike Ashley‘s reign. Two minutes in, we got off to the perfect start when Callum Wilson got in front of Cristian Romero to head home Javier Manquillo‘s cross. The crowd went wild in celebration, and I wish I could have been there to experience it.

Fifteen minutes later, Tanguy Ndombélé brought us crashing back to earth with a lovely strike into the corner. Five minutes after that, Harry Kane timed his run perfectly to beat our offside trap and lift the ball over Karl Darlow to give us a reality check. On the stroke of half-time, Spurs cut through us like butter for Heung-Min Son to make it 3-1 and put the game to bed.

Special shout out to Eric Dier for scoring a ridiculous own goal. Caught in two minds whether to head or kick the ball, he ended up doing neither and thighed the ball into his own net to set up a nervy finish.

The cold hard truth is that we’re an underfunded, poorly coached side capable of making any side look good. Jonjo Shelvey embarrassed himself and the club with his ridiculous sending off for scything down Ndombélé and Sergio Reguilón.

Our new owners can’t do anything about the squad till January, but they can replace Steve Bruce, and that needs to happen ASAP. It’s clear he’s not in their long-term plans, and delaying his departure adds instability. I want to commend Bruce for reaching 1000 games in management and over 700 games as a player. It’s a fantastic achievement that very few make, but it’s time to move on.

Goals from Danny Ings and John McGinn looked to be enough to secure Aston Villa all 3 points in the Midlands Derby. As the clock hit 80 minutes, Wolves had rarely troubled Emiliano Martínez, registering one attempt on target, but this is football, and anything can happen.

Romain Saïss and Conor Coady brought the scores level after capitalizing on Villa’s inability to clear their lines from corners. That set up a tense finish, and all the momentum was with Wolves, who pushed for the winner. Deep into injury time, they were awarded a free-kick 25-yards out. Rüben Neves stepped up and scored via a wicked deflection to complete an amazing turnaround and extend their winning run to three games.

Premier League Betting: Matchday 09 Lines and Tips

  • I Like Both Teams To Score Yes and Over 2.5 Goals at +105 in Friday night’s game between Arsenal and Aston Villa. Both sides have conceded 12 goals this season and only kept three clean sheets in their opening eight games.
  • I’m not surprised to see Brentford slight favorites to beat Leicester on Sunday. The Bees have been brilliant and deserved to get something in Matchday 08 against Chelsea, who they dominated in the second half. Brendan Rodgers‘s side travels to Russia on Thursday to play Spartak Moscow in the Europa League and will be fatigued for this game. Both Teams To Score YES is available at -130, and I think that’s a safe choice for this game.
  • I’m a big fan of Marcelo Bielsa‘s Leeds United and convinced they’ll find their form soon. Back them to score Over 1.5 Goals at +120 against Wolves on Saturday.
