Premier League Betting: Tottenham vs Chelsea Match Preview

Out: Lucas Moura (Unknown), Steven Bergwijn (Ankle)
Doubtful: Ryan Sessegnon (Hamstring), Heung-Min Son (Calf), Eric Dier (Dead leg)
Suspended: Japhet Tanganga
Coach: Nuno Espírito Santo

Giovanni Lo Celso, Davinson Sánchez, and Christian Romero‘s quarantine couldn’t end at a better time, and I expect all three will come straight into Tottenham’s starting lineup.

Lucas Moura and Steven Bergwijn both picked up injuries in Thursday’s Europa Conference League game against Stade Rennais. Japhet Tandanga is suspended after losing his head last weekend against Crystal Palace and getting himself sent off. Eric Dier picked up a dead leg in that game and remains a doubt for Sunday.

Nuno Espírito Santo is a cautious manager, and he will stick with the defensive and functional midfield three of Harry Winks, Oliver Skipp, and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. I’m a big fan of Tanguy N’Dombélé and would like to see him start to bring some creativity to the center of the pitch. But it’s quite clear the manager isn’t a fan, and it’s likely he will be restricted to appearances in cup competitions.

It’s possible we could see Heung-Min Son reunite with Harry Kane up top. The South Korean international withdrew from his national side with a tight calf and is nearing a return.

Premier League Betting: Tottenham vs Chelsea Match Preview

Out: Christian Pulišić (Ankle)
Doubtful: N’Golo Kanté (Ankle)
Suspended: None
Coach: Thomas Tuchel

Chelsea only has a couple of injury concerns, with Christian Pulišić and N’Golo Kanté the only doubts. Their squad is so deep neither will be missed, and Thomas Tuchel will rotate the side that beat Zenit St. Petersburg 1-0 in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

I think Ben Chilwell will come in for Marcos Alonso, who is in need of a rest after starting every game this season. Kai Havertz will partner Mason Mount with Hakim Ziyech dropping to the bench. Saúl Ñiguez will partner Jorginho in central midfield for the first time, and Reece James will be restored to right wing-back.

It looks like Timo Werner has become Chelsea’s forgotten man. The former RB Leipzig striker has seen minimal action since Romelu Lukaku joined the club and will probably get a run-out against Aston Villa next week in the Carabao Cup.

European club football returned this week, and both these sides played. In my Premier League Matchday 05 Lines and Tips post, I talked about the importance of paying attention to each side’s lineups for the midweek games, how much distance they’ve had to travel, how many days rest they’ve had, and how those games played out.

Spurs only had a short journey to France for their game on Thursday night. Nuno Espírito Santo made seven changes to the side that lost to Crystal Palace 3-0 last weekend, and his side should be fresh for this game. But he and his staff have been focused on Stade Rennais, so I think that lack of preparation will cost them in the end.

Chelsea come into this game having had two more days to rest and prepare. Tuchel is a brilliant tactician with a much deeper squad and can rotate in like for like quality. The way they’ve been playing since Lukaku joined, I think you would be foolish to bet against them.

Back Chelsea to collect the 3 points.
