WHAT: Premier League, Matchday 01
KICK OFF: Sunday, August 15th, 11:30 AM EST
WHERE: Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, London, England
WATCH: NBCSN, Telemundo
The Premier League 21/22 season kicks off this weekend, and the marquee fixture is Tottenham hosting the reigning champions Manchester City on Sunday.
All of the focus will be on Harry Kane, who is 28-years-old now and desperate to win trophies. The England captain believes a move to City is the best option available to him, and it’s been reported that he didn’t report for pre-season on the agreed date to push the transfer through. He released a statement denying those claims, and it’s very likely we won’t see him feature in this game.
At one point this summer, it looked like Tottenham would never find a replacement for José Mourinho. Julian Nagelsmann, Brendan Rogers, Mauricio Pochettino, Antonio Conte, Julen Lopategui, Paulo Fonseca, Gennaro Gattuso, Erik ten Hag, Scott Parker, Eddie Howe, Graham Potter, and Roberto Martinez were all linked to the job before they finally settled on Nuno Espirito Santo.
Tottenham have had a good pre-season under the ex-Wolves manager, winning three, drawing two, scoring 10 goals, and conceding 4. Fans will be hoping they can continue this form into the opening weeks of the Premier League and start the season well.
- Pre-Season: Tottenham 1-0 Arsenal (W)
- Pre-Season: Chelsea 2-2 Tottenham (D)
- Pre-Season: Milton Keynes Dons 1-3 Tottenham (W)
- Pre-Season: Colchester United 0-3 Tottenham (W)
- Pre-Season: Leyton Orient 1-1 Tottenham (D)
Manchester City spent their summer breaking the Premier League, British, and their own transfer record to bring in Jack Grealish for $139 million from Aston Villa. We will likely see them break it again with the club preparing a $175 million bid for Harry Kane.
Pep Guardiola‘s side had a good pre-season, winning all three fixtures, scoring 10, and conceding one goal. They came up short in the Community Shield against Leicester City, losing 1-0 after Nathan Aké gave away a penalty in the final minutes of the game.
- Community Shield: Leicester City 1-0 Manchester City (L)
- Pre-Season: Manchester City 4-1 Blackpool (W)
- Pre-Season: Manchester City 4-0 Barnsley (W)
- Pre-Season: Manchester City 2-0 Preston North End (W)
PREMIER LEAGUE 21/22 SEASON BETTING GUIDES
TOTTENHAM VS MANCHESTER CITY LAS VEGAS BETTING ODDS
TOTTENHAM POSSIBLE STARTING LINEUP
Out: Christian Romero (Knee), Ryan Sessegnon (Hamstring)
Doubtful: Harry Kane (Match Fitness), Bryan Gil (Match Fitness)
Tottenham’s two biggest transfer signings of the summer Bryan Gil and Christian Romero, are doubts for this game. Oliver Skipp has excelled in pre-season and will start this game ahead of Harry Winks and Moussa Sissoko.
Nuno has brought Dele Alli back into the fold after Mourinho made him a scapegoat last season. The former England star started all five pre-season games scoring two and providing an assist.
It looks like that decision will come at Tanguy Ndombélé‘s expense. The Frenchman is considering his future at the club after being left out of the last two pre-season games despite being fit.
MANCHESTER CITY POSSIBLE STARTING LINEUP
Out: Phil Foden (Foot), Kevin De Bruyne (Ankle)
Doubtful: John Stones (Match Fitness), Kyle Walker (Match Fitness), Raheem Sterling (Match Fitness), Aymeric Laporte (Match Fitness), Gabriel Jesus (Match Fitness)
City will be without Kevin De Bruyne and Phil Foden for a few weeks as they recover from injuries picked up at Euro 2020. John Stones, Kyle Walker, Raheem Sterling, Aymeric Laporte, and Gabriel Jesus will only be fit enough to make the bench after their late returns from international duty.
Grealish will make his first start in a front three alongside Ferrán Torres and Riyad Mahrez. Defensive midfielders Fernandinho and Rodri haven’t started many games together, so it’s possible Bernando Silva could take one of their places. However, Guardiola recently revealed the Portuguese international wants a move, and they might not risk injuring him.
TOTTENHAM VS MANCHESTER CITY PREMIER LEAGUE BETTING TIPS
Looking at Tottenham’s numbers last season, 54 of the 68 goals they scored in the Premier League came from Kane (23), Son (17), Gareth Bale (11), and Ndombélé (3). With Son, the only one likely to play on Sunday, their goalscoring threat is greatly reduced.
Throw in Rodri and Fernandinho shielding City’s back four and Ederson returning to the starting lineup, and I don’t see City conceding in this game.
BETTING TIP: Manchester City To Keep A Clean Sheet YES +125
