I hope everyone is having a lovely time with families & friends. We are roughly halfway through the 40 Premier League fixtures taking place over this holiday season.
WHO SAW THIS RESULT COMING?
When the team sheets came in the thought on everyone’s mind was “How many would Chelsea win by?”
I witnessed Chelsea’s line switch from -105 to -120 in a matter of minutes. Bettors put their money behind Frank Lampard’s side as they reacted to the news that Gabriel was isolating due to a COVID-19 exposure & David Luiz & Willian were absent with illness. Pierre-Emerick Aubamayang was only fit enough to start on the bench as he recovers from his thigh strain.
With his hand forced, Mikel Arteta turned to Emile Smith Rowe, Bukayo Saka & Gabriel Marinelli to play behind Alexander Lacazette. All three excelled providing pace, hunger & an industrious work rate from the moment the whistle went.
Laca, Xhaka & Saka all got on the scoresheet & this victory buys Arteta some breathing space. The Spaniard has a few more weeks to turn it around & it will be interesting to see if he keeps faith with his young Gunners?
FRANK LAMPARD READS THE RIOT ACT
Chelsea were equally as bad, as The Gunners were good. This was another opportunity to go second blown. The players failed to turn up just like they did against Everton earlier this month.
In this day & age, players do not like being called out publicly. Lampard ripped into his after the game, calling them “lazy” & couldn’t hide his anger at the first half performance.
“I’m very, very disappointed in the way we approached the first half. It’s not tactics or system, it’s do you want to run, do you want to back your team now? Do you want to sprint or do you want to jog? Do you want to say oh maybe I don’t have to run? We took that decision and it was the wrong one.”
This could be a crossroads moment in Lampard’s managerial career. All eyes will be on his players & how they respond against Aston Villa on Monday.

I THOUGHT 10 MEN WAS A DISADVANTAGE?
If you started watching Aston Villa VS Crystal Palace from the second half, it would have been difficult to tell one of the sides were down to 10 men. Dean Smith’s side worked their socks off & he will be proud of his players performance in the second half, especially the front three.
Ollie Watkins, Jack Grealish & Anwar El Ghazi worked tirelessly to relieve pressure on the back line & carve out chances on the break. Watkins laid on 3 assists & produced a performance that deserved a goal. If he keeps playing like this he will be in Gareth Southgate’s thoughts when we chooses his 23 man squad for Euro 2020.
JAMIE VARDY CRASHES THE PARTY
The Leicester City legend equalized in the 85th minute to end Manchester United’s perfect away start to the season. Bruno Fernandes was again the best player on the pitch & Ole Gunnar Solksjaer will be hoping he can keep his star player injury free.

PREMIER LEAGUE MATCHDAY 16 BETTING LINES
ODDS & ENDS
- I do like Aston Villa or the Draw at +138. They have shown this season they can compete with the Premier League’s best sides & Chelsea are having a little wobble right now.
- Newcastle were luckily to escape The Etihad with a 2-0 loss. Poor finishing & Karl Darlow kept the scoreline down. Liverpool look good to win by 2 or 3 goals. Back them at -1.5 Goals -129 or -2.5 Goals +200.
- Burnley VS Sheffield United has a draw +220 written all over it.
- There’s good value in Leeds at -106. It is one of my Betting Tips for Matchday 16.
