Both my bets didn’t hit in Matchday 19 for a sickening 5 Unit loss. I backed Liverpool & Leeds United to win & both failed to do so.
STALEMATE AT ANFIELD
Liverpool & Manchester United played out a tense 0-0 encounter. Jurgen Klopp’s side dominated possession & Thiago bossed the midfield throughout the 90 minutes. The two heroes of this game were the goalkeepers. Alisson did brilliantly to deny Bruno Fernandes & Paul Pogba whilst David De Gea dealt with Thiago’s long-range effort comfortably.
Both managers will be happy not to lose this game, but it opens up the title race to Leicester City & Manchester City. Both sides have the opportunity to go top if they win their midweek fixtures.

BRIGHTON CUT THROUGH LEEDS LIKE A HOT KNIFE THROUGH BUTTER
Neal Maupay finished off a lovely team goal to get Brighton the win. This was The Seagulls first victory in 10 games & they are now 5 points clear of the relegation zone. Graham Potter’s side face relegation rivals Fulham next in Matchday 20 in what will be a massive 6 pointer for both sides.
Leeds United continue their poor run of form. This was their third defeat in a row & worryingly, they failed to score in all 3 of them. Marcelo Bielsa has 10 days till their next fixture against struggling Newcastle to address his side’s attacking shortcomings.

LEICESTER CITY VS CHELSEA
Leicester City is in excellent form right now with 7 wins, 2 draws & 1 loss in their last 1o games in all competitions. This run of form ties into Wilfred Ndidi’s return from injury. The Nigerian international provides industry in the middle of the pitch & is brilliant at screening the back four. His central midfield partnership with Youri Tielemans is developing into one of the best in the league.
Their main weakness is the reliance on Jamie Vardy for goals. There’s a strong possibility he won’t be starting this game as Leicester manages his hip issue. Vardy has only been in the eleven for two games in four days once this season. That means Kelechi Iheanacho or Ayoze Pérez could start in his place.
Chelsea is back to winning ways, but it was far from a vintage performance against Fulham. Frank Lampard’s committed to a 4-3-3 formation & has a settled back four & midfield three. One of his biggest problems is he doesn’t know his strongest front three. His options are Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech, Christian Pulišić, Tammy Abraham, Olivier Giroud & Callum Hudson-Odoi.
I think Lampard had plans to phase Giroud out of the team this season, but the World Cup winners form has scuppered that idea. Then there’s the conundrum of Kai Havertz’s best position & how to integrate him into the team or build the side around him. Frank lacks the experience to solve these problems & Chelsea find themselves 5 points off the Top 4. Failing to qualify for the Champions League will probably cost him his job.

Even without Vardy, I think Leicester will get the win here. Brendan Rodgers side is in a better moment right now & their starting eleven is way more settled.

2 GAME PARLAY
Last season Manchester City was criticized for their defensive shortcomings & they’ve addressed those complaints with summer signing Rúben Dias. He has formed a formidable partnership with John Stones, who looks to be fulfilling his potential finally. Every great CB needs a partner & these two complements each other perfectly.
Pep Guardiola’s side is cruising right now & on a 15 game unbeaten run in all competitions. They’ll get the 3 points against Aston Villa to go top for at least a couple of hours.

Manchester United are unbeaten on the road with 7 wins & 2 draws in the Premier League. Fulham has struggled at Craven Cottage with 1 win, 3 draws & 5 defeats. Ole Gunnar Solksjaer’s will add another away victory to the collection.
