Premier League Matchday 31 Betting Tips: Tottenham vs Manchester United

Posted By Alex Blowers on April 9, 2021

Matchday 30 was a frustrating weekend with only my Liverpool Money Line bet hitting. Jürgen Klopp’s side took Arsenal apart 3-0, with Mikel Arteta admitting he was “in shock” at his side’s performance.

Chelsea lost 5-2 to West Brom in one of this season’s most surprising results. To make it even worse, Sam Allardyce gloated in his post-match interviews about how they took Chelsea apart with their tactics and not because they went down to 10 men after 29 minutes.

Tottenham let a lead slip late again as Newcastle earned a precious point in their fight for survival. Moments before Joseph Willock made it 2-2; Harry Kane hit the post. That would have made it 3-1 to Spurs, and if that scoreline held, I would have finished the weekend up 6.76 Units instead of down 3.54 Units.

That’s a 10.3 Unit/25% ROI swing and highlights how a couple of inches can be the difference between winning and losing.

The 2 points Tottenham dropped last weekend were a massive missed opportunity to catch 4th placed Chelsea after their shock defeat. This weekend they welcome Manchester United to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in a game they must win to keep their Top 4 hopes alive.

When these two met earlier in the season, it was arguably the best result and performance of José Mourinho’s reign. 31 seconds into the game, Davinson Sánchez gave away a penalty, and United was 1-0 up. Spurs responded instantly to go 2-1 up after 7 minutes, and they went on to smash Ole Gunnar Solksjaer’s 10 men 6-1.

Tottenham have had a full week to rest and prepare for this game, and I’m positive Mourinho has been going all out to motivate his players. He loves nothing more than a victory against a former employee, and he’s bitter about the amount of time he was given at Old Trafford.

Manchester United are coming into this game off a 2-0 away win against Granada in the Europa League. Solksjaer went with a strong side, and I think we will see some squad rotation from him, with the second leg taking place Thursday. This competition is their last chance at silverware this season, and he is yet to win a major trophy with the club.

I think we will see United start slowly like they have many times this season. Solksjaer will introduce his big guns in the second half, but by then, it will be too late with Heung-Min Son set to return to Spurs’ starting lineup.

Back Tottenham to win and goals from both sides.

Liverpool’s next two games could make or break their season with Aston Villa up first. They will be desperate to win after losing 7-2 to them earlier in the season and need the 3 points to keep their Top 4 hopes alive. On Wednesday evening, they have to turn around a 3-1 scoreline against Real Madrid in the Champions League Quarterfinals.

This is the moment in the season where Jürgen Klopp needs his leaders, but unfortunately, Jordan Henderson, Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, and Joël Matip are all out injured. Unable to lean on those players, I think we will see him rotate his squad with the likes of James Milner, Xherdan Shaqiri, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Curtis Jones, Roberto Firmino, and possibly Rhys Williams coming into the starting lineup. Klopp knows the importance of winning silverware, and he will prioritize Wednesday’s big game at Anfield.

Aston Villa ended their 4 game streak without a win by beating Fulham 3-1 last weekend. After going 1-0 down, Dean Smith introduced Trezeguet from the bench, who scored a quickfire brace to turn the tie around. Jack Grealish was expected to return, but Smith revealed after the game that he had pulled up on Saturday with a reoccurrence of his shin problem. Reports are now circulating that Villa’s talisman will be out for another 3 weeks.

Even with Liverpool’s squad rotation, I can’t see beyond them winning. Grealish’s injury setback will be a big blow for Villa’s confidence, and they have looked poor in the final third without him.

Put your money behind Liverpool to win with a few goals scored.

Prediction -2 Units: Parlay Liverpool Money Line and Over 2.5 Goals +114
