Premier League Matchday 34 Betting Tips: Manchester United vs Liverpool

Posted By Alex Blowers on April 29, 2021

Three of my four bets cashed in Matchday 33 for 4.97 Units of lovely profit.

My Leicester City -1.5 Goal handicap failed to hit as they came from behind to beat Crystal Palace 2-1. Chelsea ground out a 1-0 victory against West Ham for my Money Line, and Under 2.5 Goals bets to come in. Friday night, an absolute howler from Bernd Leno helped Everton beat Arsenal at The Emirates for the first time.

Champions League qualification is looking less and less likely for Liverpool after dropping points against Newcastle last weekend. Jurgen Klopp’s side dominated the game, creating a host of chances. Poor finishing and Martin Dúbravka’s heroics prevented them from increasing their lead, and they went into stoppage time 1-0 up.

Liverpool thought they had escaped with all 3 points when Callum Wilson’s equalizer was ruled out for handball. Moments later, poor marking allowed Joseph Willock to drift into space, control Dwight Gayle’s knockdown, and score via a deflection to spark pitchside celebrations. This was the third time in a row Willock has scored from the substitutes bench, and his goals have earned Steve Bruce’s side 5 points propelling them to safety.

With five games left, Liverpool finds themselves 4 points behind 4th placed Chelsea. This weekend they face a difficult trip to Old Trafford to face their biggest rivals, and the club just announced a $64 million loss over the last 12 months. Failing to make the Top 4 would further impact their revenue and completely change their summer transfer plans.

Mathematically, Manchester United can still win the title, but the race is as good as over. The Red Devils are 10 points behind leaders Manchester City, and that gap could increase to 13 if they beat Crystal Palace in Saturday’s early game.

That leaves the Europa League as their only realistic chance of silverware, and they face Roma in the Semifinals across two legs on either side of this game. Ole Gunnar Solksjaer has to prioritize this competition and rotate his squad for this match no matter how much it means to the fans.

Liverpool will go for the win and get it. They will leave themselves exposed at the back, and United have prospered playing on the counter this season, leading to goals from both sides.

Prediction – 2 Units: Liverpool Money Line +150 | 1 Unit: Over 2.5 Goals and Both Teams To Score YES +108

Leicester produced a brilliant second-half display to beat Crystal Palace and give themselves a precious 7 point cushion in the race for the Top 4.

Kelechi Iheanacho was the hero, setting up Timothy Castagne’s equalizer and rifling in the winner. That was his 14th goal of 2021 in all competitions, and no one has scored more goals than him this calendar year. What’s even more impressive is he didn’t open his account until February 3rd, and he was crowned the Premier League’s Player of the Month for March after scoring 5 goals.

Southampton have been the worst team in the league this calendar year. They have picked up 10 points from a possible 48 and suffered their second 9-0 defeat in 16 months back in early February. Fortunately, their good form in the first half of the season form looks like it will be enough to keep them up as they sit 7 points clear of the relegation zone.

Other managers would be under serious pressure, but Ralph Hasenhüttl’s stock has remained high. The former RB Leipzig manager has been linked to the Spurs job in recent days, and I expect him to move on in the summer. Tottenham’s fans and Daniel Levy will be hoping he can have a similar impact to Mauricio Pochettino, who made the same move back in 2014.

Southampton are in freefall, and when these two met in the FA Cup Semifinals a couple of weeks ago, they produced a really flat performance. If they couldn’t get up for that game, how can we expect them to be up for this one?

Back Leicester to win with Iheancho continuing his fine scoring form.

Prediction – 3 Units: Leicester City Money Line +108 | 1 Unit: Kelechi Iheanacho To Score Any Time +135
