Sources have told ESPN that English football is planning to restart its season on Saturday, June 6th. Matches would happen behind closed doors.
A mini preseason to help players back to fitness would begin on May 16th.
The return date would be implemented for all EFL clubs in the Premier League, Championship, League One, and League Two. However, league matches would not resume without government approval.
English League standings update
In the Premier League, Liverpool sit atop the table, 25 points clear of FFP violating Manchester City. If City’s Champions League ban sticks this season, then the remaining UCL qualifying spots go to Leicester, Chelsea, and Manchester United.
Bournemouth, Aston Villa, and Norwich City sit in the relegation zone.
In the Championship, Leeds United are positioned for their top flight return. It’s been 16 years since Leeds has played in the Premier League. West Brom Albion are currently in second, earning an automatic promotion as well.
In League One, Coventry City and Rotherham are most likely to get promoted. Sunderland are among the teams in the playoff promotion mix.
