PSG vs Angers Betting Preview: Odds, Team News, Lineups and Tips

Written By Alex Blowers on October 14, 2021

The international break is over, and domestic football resumes this weekend in Ligue 1. Angers have the unenviable task of traveling to Parc des Princes to face a PSG side who have had two weeks to stew on their first league defeat of the season to Rennes in Matchday 09.

The game kicks off 3PM EST on Friday and will be broadcast live on beIN SPORTS, beIN SPORTS en Español, beIN SPORTS CONNECT.

PSG vs Angers Betting Preview: Odds, Team News, Lineups and Tips

Out: Sergio Ramos (Thigh), Colin Dagba (Ankle), Lionel Messi (Fatigue), Ángel Di Maria (Fatigue), Keylor Navas (Abductor), Leandro Paredes (Fatigue), Neymar (Fatigue), Marquinhos (Fatigue),
Doubtful: Layvin Kurzawa (Calf), Juan Bernat (Torn ACL), Julian Draxler (Unknown), Ismael Gharbi (Groin)
Suspended: None
Coach: Mauricio Pochettino

PSG will be without five of their biggest players for this game. Lionel Messi, Ángel Di Maria, Leandro Paredes, Neymar, and Marquinhos played in South American World Cup 2022 Qualifiers less than 24 hours before this game.

In central defense, Thilo Kehler will return to the starting lineup and partner Presnel Kimpembe. These two started the first three games of the Ligue 1 season together, conceding five goals, but they did win all of them.

With limited attacking options, I think Poch will switch to a midfield four and play Kylian Mbappé and Mauro Icardi in a two up top.

Giorginio Wijnaldum spoke out about his PSG move during the international break, saying he wasn’t ‘completely happy.’ The 30-year-old has only started six games out of a possible twelve and is frustrated with his lack of playing time. With so many players out, he will make his seventh start in this game.

Keylor Navas withdrew at halftime in Costa Rica‘s game against USMNT with an abductor injury. It’s unknown how long he’ll be out for, and Poch will probably be glad he gets a break from choosing between him and Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Sergio Ramos was scheduled to be back from his thigh injury by now. The former Real Madrid captain still hasn’t participated in first-team training, and PSG fans will have to wait a little longer for his debut.

Out: Zinedine Ould Khaled (Thigh)

Coach: Gérald Baticle

Gérald Baticle has an almost fit squad to pick from, and I think he will stick with the side that started Matchday 09. 17-year-old Mohamed-Ali Cho could drop to the bench in place of the more experienced Stéphane Bahoken, who came off the bench and scored the 93rd-minute winner against Metz in their 3-2 victory.

Sofiane Boufal returned to the club just over a year ago. The Moroccan international is a brilliant dribbler and great at beating players. But he’s failed to perform consistently and only showed flashes of brilliance at Southampton, who made him their record signing in 2016.

PSG VS ANGERS BETTING TIPS

Angers appointed new manager Gérald Baticle in the summer, and his decision to switch them to a 3-5-2 has paid off. They have only lost once this season, are sitting in 4th with 16 points, and have one of the best defenses in the league, only conceding nine goals.

PSG have a lot of players unavailable, but their squad depth is ridiculous. One of the benefits of having such a competitive group is the three players coming in, Wijnaldum, Icardi, and Kehrer, will be highly motivated to play well and work their way into Poch’s best eleven.

I’m confident they will collect the 3 points with home advantage, but Angers will make it difficult for them, and this won’t be a high-scoring game. PSG’s xG for and against combined for the last 5 games averages out to 2.72 goals, and Angers is 2.57.

This points to Under 3.5 Goals, but at -165, it isn’t the best value. My betting tip for this game is to Parlay the Under with PSG to win, which boosts the odds to +105.

BETTING TIP: Parlay PSG To Win and Under 3.5 Goals +105
